Ealann McEwan is studying to be a healer. She loves swimming in the loch which separates her brother’s home from the Duncans. When she meets Miles out rowing his boat, he mistakes her for a selkie. She offers him a remedy for his ailing mother and they begin to forge a tentative friendship. But, Miles’ brother-in-law is determined to war against the McEwans and Ealann and Miles get caught up in the middle. Will she and Miles ever have a chance to explore their feelings for one another or will they forever be on opposing sides in their families’ feud?
I loved this story! It was so rich with historical detail. The Jacobite rebellion and clan feuds feature prominently in this story and I found this part of English and Scottish history fascinating. The romance is amazing! I loved Miles & Ealann! Miles never thought he would be able to love again, but when he meets Ealann, there’s an attraction there that completely pulls him in. I loved the scene where Miles encourages Ealann to show him her knife fighting skills.
Be prepared to have some Kleenex on hand. There are definitely some scenes that will tug on your heartstrings. Loved seeing all the characters from previous books. It’s definitely a must read! Highly recommend to historical fiction and romance fans! This book is not a standalone, so if you haven’t read the previous books, I definitely recommend reading them first. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author, but also purchased the book through KU. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review. ( )
