Summary:
The little red hen plants, grows, grinds, and bakes wheat all by herself with no help, even though she asks. When the wheat is baked into bread, that is when everyone else becomes interested and wants to help her eat it. She refuses because she did all of the hard work alone, so she ate it alone.

Personal Reaction: I have always loved this story. It helps to show children that hard work pays off, and you cannot always have the good outcomes without putting forth effort.

Classroom Extension:
1) We could make no bake cookies (easy for a classroom setting) and everyone can contribute, that way the end result is that much sweeter.
2)The class could have an outdoor picnic and eat a lunch that everyone helped make. ( )

Summary: The hen is wanting help to make bread but nobody will because they are to lazy so she doesn't let them eat it when she's done making the bread all by herself.

Personal: I think this book taught a very good lesson.

Classroom extensions: I think this would be a good kindergarten book because it teaches a lesson about how if you don't do something you can't expect to have the outcome what you want.

Summary: This traditional literate piece takes place on a farm with a red hen, a duck, a dog, and cat. The hen finds some seeds, plants them, and eventually turns the seeds of wheat into bread. Each time a task is needed to be done with the seeds she first planted she ask her fiends who will help her, they all say “Not I”, they were all quite lazy. So she does this all on her own. But when she asks who will help her eat the bread, the other animals are all game and willing to help eat! But the little red hen tells them “oh no, because none of you helped me, I will eat this by myself.” And she did, with jam on top!

Personal reaction: I enjoyed this book because it gives the young audience a lesson that sometime the effort one has to put in to help someone may not always be fun, but hard work does pay off!

Extension idea: This book would be great for the children to build teamwork skills, even if in small groups. It would also be a good book when learning about farm animals. ( )

Summary:
When it comes to baking a bread, the red hen does all of the work from preparation to baking. When the hen ask who wants to help make the bread the all the other animals refuses until it was time to eat the bread. Therefore, hen refuses to let the other animal eat since they did not help make the bread.

Personal Relation:
I can relate to this story because it helps to teach the important of cooperation and teamwork.

Extension Ideas:
1. Create an activity to have the students work together as a team and have them write about the importance of teamwork.
2. Have the students rewrite their story of the red hen in their own words, this time everyone is working together.
