I didn't realize that this book was the second in the series. I will have to return to fix a review after I have read the first in the series. ( )

There are so many great things in these pages: lesser known myths, friendship, tons of adventure and tension, and even a little mystery. I wanted to love this read and have no doubt that many readers will, but while the writing was fine and characters likeable, it wasn't quite my thing.
The first pages grab right away and the pan-demigod figure (rabbit) holds tons of potential. Despite being a major part of the plot, it mostly stays in the background and watches instead of playing an active role. While I'm sure this served its purpose, it lessened the character for me.

I did enjoy the characters and found them likeable as well as relatable. Their friendship with its ups and downs was well laid. Their powers will also interesting and added grabbing twist on the usual teen drama...and it was this mix that dulled the belief end for me. They were bullied, since they didn't fit it (which is understandable), but their powers were nearing the ranks of those seen in X-Men, which made me doubt that anyone would be brave enough to mess with them...or that they would really feel threatened, since they know how to wield their powers. But again, this could just be me.

As said, it is a well-written enough but just didn't grab me the way I'd hoped, but I do believe other fans of this genre might see it differently and be drawn in. It just wasn't the book for me. ( )

In preparation for receiving this ARC, I read the first of the series, Freaks. I found the school shooting scenarios very disturbing in the first novel, but that was not prevalent in this second one.
The young freaks are trying to stay below the feds' radar since they know that they have been bugged and are constantly followed.
Some things change when Micah's Uncle Baltar comes to stay with him, but the uncle's influence is uncertain.
The violence continues to be invasive, but there are not such disturbing deaths in this book.
Not sure that I would recommend it to young readers. ( )

I received this as part of the LT early review program.

Thank you to the author and publisher for sending me the ARC in exchange for an honest review. Travelers is the second in the Freaks series which follows a group of teens gifted with super powers in the first book. They are learning to utilize these powers while trying to avoid a government team tasked with eliminating them if they prove a threat. Throw in a all powerful Native American god, a creepy magical old man, and a budding love interest for two of the freaks and the story really starts to run.

I found the writing solid but the pacing did drag a bit for me at times. I appreciated the representation included and the social commentary in the subtext but at times was more annoyed than anything with a few of the characters. The over use of the word ain’t also wasn’t my favorite but these were minor things. Good for fans of teen super hero tropes. ( )

Travelers by Brett Riley is the second in series after the first book, Freaks. And, this is the biggest problem as I did not knew this. The book was very difficult to understand if you have not read the first book. Although, the narrator was very good, but I could not understand that what was going on actually. The characters are young teenagers with good portrayal. And, I am feeling really bad for writing this as I have already read some books by the publisher which were so good.

I could only give 3 stars to the book. Thanks to Netgalley and Imbrifex Books for providing me an opportunity to read and review the book. ( )
