Learn everything there is to know about how to install a versatile and capable air ride system. Air suspension used to be expensive, difficult to install, and complex to figure out. But that was years ago. Today, thanks to kits made for virtually every make and model of car and truck, plus the popularization of automatic digital levelling kits, it's easier than ever to take a vehicle and put it on the ground. With a properly installed air ride suspension, you can set your height wherever you like, lay your ride on the asphalt when you want, and even tear through the corners like you're driving a slot car. But here's the most important part: it's just cool. Having an air-bagged vehicle isn't restricted to one vehicle class or another. While it originally became popular with mini trucks, it soon caught on with street rods, cars, and motorcycles, and even traditional lowriders have embraced the scene. That's because where previous adjustable suspensions had their problems, air ride setups are quite often cleaner and easier to maintain. It all depends on how it's installed and managed. In How to Install Air Ride Suspension Systems, air ride veteran Kevin Whipps walks you through everything you need to know about installing an air suspension onto pretty much anything. After going through the basics of each component, he explains how it all works together in easy-to-understand terms that make it simple for even the mechanically challenged. By the end of it all, you'll know more about air suspension than you thought was possible and have a clear understanding of what you need to do to bag your ride.… (más)

Great resource for Air Ride installation!

Before I read this book, air ride suspensions were like voodoo magic to me - I had no idea of the details of how to make them work. Now I believe I could install one.
The author gave good step-by-step instructions about how to choose the correct parts for your car/truck, how the systems work, some choices for vendors, and provided good overall mechanical information which I can use today regarding things like which type of pipe thread seals the best.
For someone wanting to install air ride on their vehicle, you need this book. ( )

If you're seriously considering putting air bags on your car, get this book. Excellent overview of the technical aspects and examples of some typical installations. Well written and many great photos of the various processes. Even if you're just thinking about it, get this book and see what you'll be getting into. ( )

How To Install Air Ride Suspension Systems (2022) by Kevin Whipps. You’ve seen them for years, the ultra cool rides that literally bounce down the street. Usually a custom car that is so tricked out you can hardly stand it. They have been the mainstay at car shows across the country for a few decades, and I love the look. But I never gave a thought as to how the bounce was achieved.
Here in this one stop compete guide to the air ride system you find it all. If you want to update your car and be the envy of enthusiasts far and wide, here is how. The book starts with the history of airbags and goes on to give you the ABC’s of the details of the systems, how they are similar and how they differ. The variance in systems depends on your compressor, the air tank and all the lines and fittings used to distribute the inflation out to the wheels.
Mr. Whipps devotes six pages to exactly what an air bag is and how they vary in size, shape and lift capability. There are a few chapters devoted to the other details of the systems, but I found the talk about your ride’s carriage, specifically the suspension, of great importance. Before jumping into costing out just what the air bag system would cost, you also have to look at the realities of your individual suspension system and the upgrades you might have to perform in order to have your car up to show standards.
The last two chapters reveal how to install an air ride system and then a step-by-step tour of “Bagging a 1958 Chevrolet Impala. Lots of good stuff there plus some tips to make your own upgrade easier.
In summing up, this How To Install… guide from CarTech books is yet another in an ever growing catalog of great car books. While many are how to books, there is a wide range of books covering various cars, manufacturers, racing vehicles and drivers and many other car related topics. Do I have to tell you to check them out?
Oh, and as the population is getting older, the air bag systems are being placed in everyday vehicles to allow greater access. Of course they are also placed in service vehicles for use by the mobility impaired. They are not just for show anymore. ( )
