Prue is sure that her new hat will be loved by everyone. That doesn't seem to be the case. She visits her friends at the zoo who make it clear her hat is scary. When she realizes how right her friend is she throws it away. Can her hat be repurposed into something special? ( )

It has some good pictures and the hat is interesting. I guess this is how a kid might act if someone did not like what they had or what someone else had. ( )

Let me start by saying that the illustrations in this book are delightful and very well done.

As for the story itself? I found it disappointing. From the synopsis and the dedication "Dedicated to hat lovers everywhere." I had assumed that while in the beginning of the story Prudence and her unique hat wouldn't fit in and would some mockery from her friends but in the end everyone would come together and Prudence and her hat would be accepted. This, however, is not what happens. Poor Prudence is mocked by her friends for her unusual hat to the point that she cries and throws it away after snapping at and being mean to her friends. Quite frankly, I don't think that this is the type of lesson that we should be teaching children, and wouldn't recommend this to any child or parent. ( )
