And Then There's Margaret is about a mother in law who moves in with her daughter-in law after her husband dies. Margaret is difficult to say the least, she does many things that annoys her daughter-in-law. Is there a reason why Margaret does these things? A fun book to read. ( )It's a bold move to banner a book with 'laugh-out-loud dramedy'. It really does have to live up to that, and that's always tricky because comedy is subjective. Honestly? There's very little comedy, laugh-out or otherwise, in this: perhaps the odd wry phrase/remark, but that's about all. However, if you read this and forget the promised 'comedy' flavouring, you do actually get a very decent read. It's a bit clichéd (mother-in-law from hell), but it's worth committing to it to see how Ally (the hard-done-by daughter-in-law) deals with her, and how (and why) the pair finds a middle ground. Very definitely five-star worthy but for the lack of promised comedy and many very naughty editorial oversights, for example: 'between Hank and I…' (dear oh dear), many apostrophe sins and the detention-worthy 'was sat'. It's a classy novel, so this was disappointing. Nevertheless, highly recommended. I enjoyed this Woman's fiction. I won this from several author's and I voluntarily chose to review this story. I've given it a 4* rating. I'd say this is not for the under 18 readers but it was a hoot for this old gal. Lot's of interesting tidbits in here to keep you turning the page. I must say, some of the things hit a little too close. This mother says it pretty much like it is. This will have you laughing and maybe a few tears Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. I started this arc and soon realized it needs editing. Not terrible though. At 65%, it took a sharp turn. Examples: —“Don’t worry, Cam they will,” I said, trying not to feel the painful disconnect from Samantha lately as a thumbed haphazardly through the newspaper, occupying myself.” —The room was small, dominated by a bed, making it feel crowded. Luckily, our insurance plan covered a single room upgrade because room sharing at a hospital was like sharing a hotel room with a stranger. —We’ve had the kind of love that moves in like a massive storm then settles down quietly and comfortably for years. I kept thinking, “This has got to be the author’s spit draft.” The draft when you get everything out. You don’t self edit. The not-supposed-to-be-good draft. Did the editor stop editing? Did the writer? I received this in exchange for an honest review. Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. Very relatable family. Allison seems like she is trying to hold everything together but her mother-in-law just keeps pushing her buttons. Margaret has a wall built up between her and Allison. Allison soon learns why. Humorous story. Enjoyable read. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

"Marriage and midlife can be difficult. But when you add a controlling, manipulative and self- absorbed mother-in-law into the mix, things can get worse-much worse. Toxic, even. When Allison Montgomery's beloved father-in-law and long-time confidant passes away, her mother- in-law, Margaret, 'temporarily' moves in. From rearranging the furniture and taking over the kitchen, to undermining and embarrassing Allie at every turn, including funding her daughter's escape, throwing a hissy fit at the mall, and publicly equating Allie's glass of Chardonnay to full blown alcoholism, Margaret turns Allie's life upside down causing her to bounce between a sincere desire to support her grieving mother-in-law and an intense urge to simply push her out of the nearest window. Feeling annoyed, trapped and even a little childish, Allie struggles to avoid a complete meltdown with help from her fearless and audacious best friend, a plan for reinventing herself and enjoying a second act, and, yes, a few glasses of Chardonnay. Along the way, Allie discovers the reasons behind Margaret's attitude toward her all these years. Does it help? Maybe... For fans of Maria Semple's Where'd You Go Bernadette or Marian Keyes's The Break, comes the perfect laugh-out-loud 'dramedy'. And Then There's Margaret takes readers on a relatable and hilarious ride, as Allie realizes the only way to survive the angst of family is to let go"-- No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
