I really enjoyed this book. Since I was a kid the pressure of deciding a career and the pressure of having to make a plan for, “when I grow up.” It is important not to rush children into being a grown up, and letting them enjoy being kids. They have plenty of time to figure themselves out and the best part is watching them grow into whatever little human they become. ( )

This book sets the stage for a class play where the students dress up and tell the audience what they want to be when they grow up. Some of their ideas are far fetched, while others are a little more tangible. One student (who I very much relate to) wails out that he doesn't want to grow up! The teacher quickly makes sure to reassure him that he has quite a few years before he actually does have to grow up. I absolutely loved the illustrations in this book. They were all full spread and so colorful. Each one did such a great job of setting up the stage for what each child's career aspirations were. ( )

This book is a musical about children singing about what they want to be when they grow up. The words on each page were minimal and in big print, which is perfect for younger kids. The pictures were very colorful and gave a great depiction of what they were explaining they wanted to be. I thought that this would also give kids great ideas about all the different opportunities they have when they get older. For example, the book says, "an explorer of the galaxy," "a famous poet," "a sweet shop of our own." This shows kids that there are so many different careers they could hold when they are older. My favorite part of the book was the last child to speak. She had a scuba outfit on and was beginning to say what she wanted to be, but she could not get the words out. Finally, she broke down into tears and screamed, "I don't wanna grow up!" I thought it was really funny, because even as an adult, sometimes I wish I was still a child! ( )

This has to be one of my favorites thus far! I think it is extremely important to explain to kids they can be whatever they want when they grow up. It is important for them to use their imagination and explore every possible option. I am 22 years old and graduating from college in a month and half and I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. It is also important to let kids know they have their whole life to decide what they want to be so it is ok to change your mind and not want to be the same thing forever and they do not have to grow up soon, they have forever!
