One of Canada's most distinguished novelists, short-listed for the 1986 Booker Prize, joins an eminent critic to select the best Canadian short stories of the last two centuries.
Margaret Atwood is not the author! This is an anthology of 41 Canadian short stories from the 19th and 20th centuries, edited and with two introductory essays by Margaret Atwood and Robert Weaver. Most of the stories were written since 1950, and most of the authors were still living in 1986 when this collection was published. Many are well known Canadian writers, some have an international reputation, and some are new to me. This is an excellent textbook for Canadian literature students, and a fine anthology to read for pleasure and inspiration. ( )
