She's been this dream of high expectations - some of which were imposed by her family and some of which are self imposed. She's put up with a lot but has finally decided to choose herself for once. But just because you make that choice, doesn't mean you don't have second thoughts and weak moments where you want to go back to what is familiar. I liked this novel of self acceptance and courage to give up the old expectations and self doubts. ( ) I really liked this second chance, coming into your own romance. Nadia never had a quinceañera like her older sister. After a decade plus long romance and engagement, Nadia calls it all off shortly before the wedding. She stumbles across an article about grown up quinceañeras. The venue is already booked, so she tells her family that she wants to celebrate her double quinceañera as she is turning thirty and entering a new phase of her life. Nadia's a great character--she's strong and learning how to use her own voice. Crucial to the story is the fact that the venue is owned by a family whose son she shared a special summer with during college. Marcus works at the family business, trying to prove he can keep it in the family. I wanted to like this book a lot more than I did. The premise is pretty interesting, but the writing was a bit long winded. I found myself skimming along thru some chapters where the plot really didn’t move along. Nadia is almost thirty and finds herself without a groom just a few weeks before her wedding. She has the venue and family coming in from out of the country so she decides to throw herself a 30th birthday party or double quinces as she’s calling it. The venue manager/party planner goes out of town and leaves her brother in charge. Her brother, Marcos, just so happens to be Rocket, the guy Nadia had a fling with in college. Marcos helps save the party and, let’s be honest, this book. The book was told in alternating chapters - Nadia and Marcos - and I was definitely more interested in Marcos’ chapters. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
