"Meg Williams. Maggie Littleton. Melody Wilde. Different names for the same person, depending on the town, depending on the job. She's a con artist who erases herself to become whoever you need her to be. A college student. A life coach. A real estate agent. But nothing about her is real. She slides alongside you and tells you exactly what you want to hear, and by the time she's done, you've likely lost everything. Kat Roberts has been waiting ten years for the woman who upended her life to return. And now that she has, Kat is determined to be the one to expose her. But as the two women grow closer, Kat's long-held assumptions begin to crumble, leaving Kat to wonder who Meg's true target is. The Lies I Tell is a twisted domestic thriller that dives deep into the psyches and motivations of two women and their unwavering quest to seek justice for the past and rewrite the future"--… (más)

A real page-turner! Meg Williams, con artist/grifter returns to California, and investigative reporter Kat is hot on her trail. But in the words of Aretha Franklin, "Who's zooming who?" That is the question. Meg sets a trap for each of her marks that is not only intricately planned but also orchestrated beautifully. I found myself routing for her success, with some type of vicarious enjoyment as I imagined myself getting even with some people in a similar way! ( )

Beautiful Karma!

This is the first book I read by Julie Clark and I was not disappointed. I have had The Last flight on my kindle for at least a year. After reading this I will for sure be moving it up on my reading list.. It’s a little bit different than a typical thriller which is a nice change.

We have two main characters Kat, a journalist, and Meg, or Melodie, or Maggie… she has more than a few aliases. Each is a strong woman in her own right and they both have a goal and I would not even try to stop them. Sometimes Karma is needed and beautiful.

Kat believes that Meg is a con artist and wants to expose her. While Meg definitely is not what she appears to be on the surface, her reasons go far beyond anything Kat could have imagined. Meg has returned because she has someone that she actually wants to expose. At a glance, it appears that the two women have become friends but you know what they say about keeping your friends close, but your enemies closer. Julie Clark’s writing style sucked me in immediately. As the story develops, the reader discovers why Kat is so obsessed with Meg’s story and that there is much more to Meg’s story than Kat initially believed. Interesting storyline flashing back to some of Meg’s previous cons and trying to guess how she will get back at corrupt politician, Ron Ashton. Who I didn’t like as a character but I thought he was a beautifully written Villain. I adored this to the point of obsession. I can not wait to see what comes next.

Julie Clark, author of The Flight, does it again! The Lies I Tell is a thriller wrapped in a psychological study wrapped in a tale of unlikely relationships.

From the first chapter, I was absorbed by the story of Kat and Meg. By how they arrived at their current positions, by their choices and by what happened to them throughout their lives. You think about the people with whom you engage, what secrets they may be harboring, and when we know what the right thing is.

The twists and turns keep coming, making this a very enjoyable and fast read. The resolution is satisfying and unexpected. The story is great fun - and I look forward to Julie's next exciting tale!

Much appreciation goes to NetGallery and the publisher, Sourcebooks Landmark, for the opportunity to read and review an ARC. ( )

I had a very hard time putting this book down. I loved the way the author teased you a bit with the present day story and then went back and gave you part of the backstory, then in the middle of the book went back again and filled in some of the gaps. I thought both characters were quite smart for the most part. I don't like it when characters do things that make you ask "What are they thinking?" The only spot when I thought the character did something out of character was when Kat left the apartment when Scott was moving out. I thought she should have been smarter than that. He had proven himself to not be trustworthy and then of course she got burned because he stole her notes.

I found myself feeling really bad for Meg, but not enough to excuse what she did. One of the reasons I didn't give this a 4 was because I didn't like how it ended. I felt like the author was trying to justify what Meg did and give the impression that because she helped women with the money that she stole, that it was okay. I really didn't like that Kat heads down the same road of revenge. .

There was no graphic sex or violence, there is an implied date rape with the character waking up the next morning with only a shirt on. There is a fair bit of language which is one of the reasons I didn't rate it a 4. F-word 10 , Blashphemy 15 , assorted other language 15 .

I enjoyed this book, it really held my interest and if the ending had been slightly different and it had less foul language it would have been a 4.
