There's a good moral, and strong girl characters. The pictures are annoying at best and racially stereotyped at worst, with a detour through botanically inaccurate. And the language is cloying: "Curly wurly, Pearlie!" Not that you expect somberness from a kid's book about two fairies named Opal and Pearlie, but dignity is achievable. I have to admit, my daughter's fond of it -- her name's Opal, though, which has a lot to do with it. ( )
