After fifteen years on the force, Danni has had enough. Injured in the line of duty when a protester throws a chunk of concrete at her and shaken by the vitriol being shown to the police, Danni realizes for the first time that she's lost her passion for the job. Taking on this case means stepping back into a job Danni's not sure she can do anymore... and working closely with her ex-husband, Gabriel Fox, an investigator for the city prosecutor's office. Title: Code of Courage
Author: Janice Cantore
Pages: 409
Year: 2022
Publisher: Tyndale House Publishers
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
In a captivating novel, Janice Cantore brings readers into the world of law enforcement. The main character is Detective Danni Grace whose father was a police officer. He taught her about faith and how to serve others. Code of Courage is set in a town named La Rosa where civil unrest is escalating, and the politicians aren’t supporting the officers’ attempts to bring calm. However, a cold case from the past and current events are somehow tied together. If Danni and Gabe Fox can find a way to solve the mystery, there is still hope for the town and residents.
Gabe Fox was married once to Danni until she forced a divorce without any explanation to Gabe. Two years have passed without a word between them. When Danni is injured on the job, she takes a deep look into her heart. She leaves for Hawaii to visit her mom and to decide if she wants to remain an officer. What happens is that she faces the pain of her past and that brings hope to her future.
Gabe Fox knew Danni’s father and her father’s strong faith, but faith was never something Gabe thought was a reality. With the social unrest and political maneuvering that is hampering enforcing the law, Gabe comes to realize that without direction life doesn’t seem to have a purpose. In the story, he realizes he still loves Danni. When she returns to La Rosa, she isn’t the same woman, and he wants to know why.
The novel took me a couple of chapters to get into, since the characters and setting were new. I think some of it too was the story reminded me of what had occurred in Seattle not that long ago. The story takes off once I realized that there were several unanswered questions percolating with the characters and the plot. I enjoyed reading the story that has faith, encouragement, hope and romance. I highly recommend reading the book!

Code of Courage is a modern day Christian fiction story by Janice Cantore. This story is so well written and realistic. It felt more like reading the newspaper than reading fiction. This story grabbed my attention right away and held it to the very end. I enjoyed how Gaber was so quick to get to the hospital when Danni was injured. Despite being divorced, it was easy to see, they still had feeling for each other. I really enjoyed this story. It contains suspense, mystery and romance.

I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, this is my honest review. ( )

Code of Courage by Janice Cantore could take place in any city today. This book has suspense, but it’s really about the minds and hearts of law enforcement who truly have a desire to serve and protect people.

As a previous police office, Cantore’s knowledge of police procedure is well-documented in this book. She also gives readers a healthy dose of personal lives in Danni and Gabe—including their regrets, challenges, and disappointments.

From the opening pages, you know that this book is going to be intense. Cantore doesn’t play down the violence but doesn’t go into graphic detail as she effortly weaves together Danni’s current investigation with Gabe’s cold case.

I always enjoy reading Cantore’s books, and Code of Courage is another winner.

This story starts and ends with so much action, and I felt like I was reading today's paper, or watching the news on TV.

Corruption all the way to the top, and these character's are caught in the injustice that is be perpetrated by the evil that seems to be in control. A hopeless situation? There are people here of great faith, and wear it on there sleeves, and we are with them as they go above and beyond. How much easier it would be to just throw in the towel.

This is a read that will have you page turning and wondering how it will all end. A suburb of Los Angeles, La Rosa, CA, and the rallying cry of "Get Rid Of The Police". Yes, we wonder how this is all going to end, and the author does a great job of bringing this read to a conclusion!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Tyndale House, and was not required to give a positive review. ( )

Oh. Wow.
This book just got twistier and twistier! Talk about a bizarre string of events and a cold case file seemingly unrelated come together and pull the reader along until the very last clue falls into place.
I loved this book, simply because I couldn’t figure out what was going on.
The opening scene introduces us to a riot taking place in front of one of the precincts of La Rosa, CA. Police officers are holding the line, but some get injured, like 15 year veteran, Danni Grace. It’s intense and the crowd is incensed, but no one really knows why. And this is the thread that carries readers along – people are upset, the mayor is determined to get rid of the police force, and nobody knows why.
Danni takes a leave of absence when there’s a police-involved shooting, and calls to disband the police force grow louder. Her ex-husband, an investigator for the Prosecutor’s office, is relegated to working on cold cases when he gets too close to the truth concerning the on-going, or lack of, police investigation.
This story has everything a fantastic police procedural requires. A variety of characters – are any of them truly trustworthy? Vivid setting descriptions, action scenes, suspenseful scenes, a trail of clues that don’t make sense. And TWISTS galore!
If you want an exciting, page-turning, intriguing summer read, pick up a copy of Code of Courage by Janice Cantore. You won’t be disappointed.
