Maggie Sweet has had it! For nineteen years, she's kept house, raised a pair of battling twin daughters, put up with her frugal husband, Steven, humored his impossible mother, and kept her mouth shut. But when Steven spends their life savings on a cemetery plot, it's time for Maggie to take control. With her twenty-year high school reunion just around the corner and her long-lost high school boyfriend back in town, it's Maggie's turn to start turning heads. In the face of small-minded gossips, a surly family, and a meddling grandmother, Maggie must reach deep inside her Southern-housewife soul to become the woman she's always wanted to be.… (más)

Very average book. The writing was not outstanding, the story has been told countless times before. The characters were all flat - it was easy to forget their names, I did not find myself rooting for them to win in the end. ( )

A charming and engaging first novel, set in the South, about Maggie Sweet, a 30ish married woman settled in a staid, safe and unchanging marriage with a teacher a decade older. When her high school reunion looms and her old boy friend comes back to town, she begins to become awakened to the many ways in which she has locked herself into a loveless and unsatisfying life, and how she might still posess the keys to free herself. Plot a bit hackneyed, but a well-told story with sympathetic characters that draw the reader willingly into their lives. The one exception is the husband Steven, stiff and unyielding to the point of caricature. ( )
