If you want to learn about Mexico and its history then this is the book for you. It gives you alot of information without too much detail. The history is from the Mexican point of view which is refreshing. ( ) This textbook does its best to avoid textbook blandness. That spark, and its 700-page appetite for detail, keep this book at the top of the list. The only omission I noticed was an inadequate setting of the stage for the Texas imbroglio of the 1830's. Texas' secession is too often isolated from its context of centrifugal turmoil throughout Santa Anna's Mexico -- and so it is again here. The secessions of Yucatan and Zacatecas states really should have been at least mentioned, to give a more Mexican perspective to the Texas revolt. But, whether that is a failure or a mere quibble, don't let it keep you away from this fine book. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
This highly regarded book--long the standard in its field--draws on both classic and current sources to provide a comprehensive survey of Mexican history from the pre-Columbian period to the present. Covering Mexico's history from a broad range of perspectives--political, economic, social, and cultural--the fully revised and updated Fourth Edition contains important re-evaluations of Classic Maya civilization, a major assessment of the Miguel de la Madrid presidency, and an introduction to the Carlos Salinas de Gortari administration. In addition, a new section on U.S.-Mexico border relations has been added, and bibliographies have been brought up to date throughout. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
