The Sand Pounder is a highly recommended book for not only Young Adults but for the whole family. It is about the time period when the U.S. entered World War ll, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It is the sad part of U.S. History when faithful American Japanese were ripped from their homes and businesses and treated like criminals. It is the time American citizens allowed fear and stereo-typing to rule their sense of humanity and turn on respected friends and neighbors, simply because of their Asian heritage It was interesting to me to learn about a Coast Guard group, called the Sand Pounders, which I had never heard of before. While I am aware of the horses used in calvaries, I had never heard of this elite group of men. This story is of a young girl, determined to do her part in the defense of her country. The story pulls together the various wartime scenarios into one captivating tale of the little-known defense of the western coast and of the events occurring within the U.S., as well as outside the U.S., during those remorseful times. The book portrays the value of commentary, patriotism, friendship, and women being acknowledged in new roles. It was a time when men were awakened to the value of women, outside of the home. and the trials many individuals endured. It also portrays a sense of human respect and honor. This is a literary work Book Clubs would benefit from reading. There is much material presented for various discussions. The characters were very realistic, well-defined and the scenes drew the reader in, allowing him/her to feel a part of the story. The Title and Cover image were both well-chosen, eye-catching, and depicted the main idea of the story well. *This book was gifted me with no pressure to post a positive review. This is my honest review. I enjoy reading WWII stories and thus the reason I wanted to check out this book. Yet, you could say that this book is a surprise hit. As I have read many books centered around WWII; this is the first one I can recall reading that focused on "sand pounders". The sand pounders were the U.S. Coast Guard Mounted Patrol. I would say that they played a vital role during WWII like the code breakers. It is books like this that grow my intrigue of past historical events. Most of the WWII books I have read focus on the military or aviation but not the other brave men and women that helped as well. It was great to see a strong female character as the lead. Jane aka John did not shy aware from danger. She faced it and took her role very seriously. She is joined by love interest Stephan. Yes, there is some romance between Jane and Stephan but it is not the main focal point. Readers of all ages will enjoy reading this book. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

The Sand Pounder – Love and Drama on Horseback in WWII by M. J. Evans is a different take on WWII stories I am use to reading. I have to admit, I didn’t know what a Sand Pounder did before I read this book. I appreciate the attention to detail Evans shows readers in this book. I found myself learning several new things as I read this book. I enjoyed the carefully crafted characters and their development throughout the plot. John, aka Jane was fabulous! She played her part in the story so very well, and didn’t mind having to dwell with the other men. She was more concerned about doing the job she came to do. Will she be found out? Well, this is a reason you need to read this book. You will love the easy reading of author M. J. Evans as she tells this story through the eye of young Jane. If you want a good clean read or know a young person that loves to read, this would be a wonderful choice. And those of you who are WWII bugging, you will enjoy this different take on the war. I encourage you to pick up your copy today.
