"How do you hold onto hope in a difficult time? In the small city of Wharton, Connecticut, lives are beginning to unravel. A woman loses the love of her life. A son struggles with addiction. A widow misses her late spouse. A husband betrays his wife. At the heart of these interlinking stories is one couple: Freddie and Greg Tyler. Greg has just been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a brutal form of cancer. He has never been dependent or weak, and wants to overcome this the way he has succeeded at everything else: through grit and determination. But can Greg fight his illness? How will Freddie and their daughter cope if he doesn't? How do the other residents of Wharton learn to live with loss and to find happiness again? A debut that pulls at the heartstrings and immerses readers in a community, A Little Hope broadcasts the joy and hope to be found in the everyday acts of loving, forgiving, and surviving"--… (más)

I was ready to not like this one because I hate when a bunch of short stories get together, throw on a trench-coat, and pretend to be a novel. Luckily, these interconnected stories of people who are weathering life‘s struggles and tragedies but finding that bit of sweetness on the other side started getting to my heart in the last half. It‘s a little too on the nose at times, but both reads easily and captures the essence of being human. ( )

This book read like a composite of many LifeTime movies, complete with commercials or product placements from The Pottery Barn, L.L. Bean, Nordstrom's and Ralph Lauren. The author was trying to pull on the heartstrings of readers but it just had no depth. Instead read "Olive Kitteridge" by Elizabeth Strout. ( )

The heart of these interlinking stories is one couple: Freddie and Greg Tyler. Greg has just been diagnosed with multiple myeloma and we follow them and their friends over the course of a year. The novel broadcasts the joy and hope to be found in the everyday acts of loving, forgiving, and surviving. ( )

Everyone in this book is dealing with something difficult, but the book isn't super dark and depressing, which is quite refreshing. Real life is hard, but there's always that smidgeon of hope that things will get better--and they usually do, eventually. It was nice to see this captured in a novel--the hope that comes after the struggle, rather than the route fiction often takes: hope spawned from situations magically resolving themselves in a narratively satisfying way. A book about people in a small town. Their lives are intertwined with interesting events. This book is about people living and coping with the ordinary things of life. Loved this book. ( )
