Well, I am glad that I read it, as Terry Goodkind is a preferred author of mine....however.....I am beginning to wonder about either: a) his editor or b) his writing! This book appears unedited in any way. There are repeating sentences and paragraphs throughout the whole book. We get it, we know the story, we know what you are trying to say, etc. etc. So at first I blamed the editor. Then I got to thinking, hmmm....maybe that is how he wrote all of his other 13-ology books about Richard and Kahlan, but had a fantastic editor. Who really knows?

I was confused about the story line and had kinda thought he wrapped things up nicely with "Confessor." I thought they were starting a new world, and took that quite literally. So...I thought maybe this was a story about the continuation of this idea just in the new setting. Uh, no. It's like book 12 1/2, after the 13th had already been written along with the futuristic sequel (?) "Law of Nines." It is all so potentially headache invoking, in this mixed up order of things. Maybe I just don't get it.

But, I love Kahlan and Richard, Nikki and Cara, Zedd and Nathan. I did get a little freaked out in parts about the dark shadows and things just appearing in a room that was already checked out. Extra credit points for really descriptive and disgusting entrail-ectomy scenes. Those were good and reminded me of how Terry wrote previous books.

And then the solution to the problem and how Richard saves the day....really? Do you really think that would have worked? And then what about the true bad guy and his accomplice?

Totally set-up for a book 12 and 3/4!

Yeah, I'll probably read it. ( )

Damn [a:Terry|3441|Terry Goodkind|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1339807358p2/3441.jpg], what happened to you?

I can hardly believe this story came out of the same pen that wrote the epic Sword of Truth series which I so loved back when I was a student. I almost read the complete series back to back at university and was eager to return to the world of Richard and Kahlan.

All I got however, was disappointment and boredom. Hardly anything worthy of writing a review about really, so I'm just going to stop. ( )

Beetje chaotisch boek.

A bit insubstantial plotwise, as it became obvious what was happening quite early on. It was OK. It was nice that the book opened with Cara and Benjamin's wedding. Shame the peace didn't last very long and Goodkind's writing style hadn't changed - too much repetitive explanation of background information. With nothing much happening for a while, and most of the action in the last bit of the book, it actually felt like only half a book - only half the mysteries that had taken so long to set up had been conclude. I guess the next books will deal with the rest. ( )

If I had not read earlier Terry Goodkind, I think I might have enjoyed this book more.

It's not great, but it's not bad. You've got your heroes, who are a bit flawed...you've got your supporting cast, who are - supportive... and you've got your evil ones who are so evil, it's almost a bit laughable.

But I was expecting some great dialogue (it got tedious at times), and I was expecting some 'aha' moments -- which seemed to instead be replaced with some 'really? well, ok.. ' moments.

overall though, I did enjoy the story enough that I can't say I'm sorry I spent the time reading it.. although I do wish Goodkind had spent a bit more time writing/editing it. ( )
