How far would you go to find the perfect husband? All the way back to the 1950s? In a world full of happily-ever-after, Meri Newberg feels like the last young woman on the planet to be single, at least in her Christian friend group. So when she's handed a strange present at the latest wedding-a 1950s magazine article of "ways to get a husband"-she decides there's nothing to lose by trying out its advice. After all, she can't get any more single, can she? Her brother's roommate sees the whole thing as a great opportunity. Not to fall in love-Kai Kamaka has no interest in the effort a serious relationship takes. No, this is a career jump start. He talks Meri into letting him film every silly husband-catching attempt for a new online show. If it goes viral, his career as a cameraman will be made. When Meri Me debuts, it's an instant hit. People love watching her lasso men on street corners, drop handkerchiefs for unsuspecting potential beaus, and otherwise embarrass herself in pursuit of true love. But the longer this game goes on, the less sure Kai is that he wants Meri to snag anyone but him. The only problem is that he may not be the kind of husband material she's looking for . . .… (más)

It was a little silly - doing things from a 50s "get a man" list - but like all good romance novels, it was a way to get the two main characters to spend time together. Meri is craving marriage and feeling left behind by all her married friends. Kai has checked out of all "commitment" type things after being burned one too many times. I really liked that both characters had to do some re-thinking and growing as their attraction to each other became more apparent. I also liked the ending a lot - no "happily ever after" but still very hopeful. ( )

Thanks to Independent Publishers Group & NetGalley for a digital reader copy. All comments and opinions are my own.

If you're looking for a sweet, feel-good rom-com, this is the book for you. Thirty-one-year-old Meri Newberg is the only one still single in her group of Christian girlfriends. As a lark, she and her brother's slacker roommate Kai decide to follow the advice of a 1950's magazine article: "101 Ways to Find a Husband." Meri will act out the items on the list, and Kai will film her and post on YouTube, on a program they dub "Meri Me." They have lots of laughs as the videos go viral, especially since the two of them are a good foil for each other. But will Meri ever find a husband? Or does Kai's goal to use the video as a demo reel to get a cameraman job backfire when he discovers he has feelings for Meri? This could have been silly, but was actually a well-written, entertaining novel with believable characters that I wanted to spend time with.

Two things I especially liked about this novel were the realistic use of social media (Instagram, YouTube, cell phones) and the inclusion of the characters' Christian faith. There was no "preaching" to the reader, and their faith was a natural part of their lifestyle.

I recommend this light-hearted, satisfying, and enjoyable quick read. ( )

I have not laughed this hard in such a long time but this book is so good I have to share my thoughts with you. What starts out as a joke quickly turns into a YouTube sensation. I loved the concept of following the list that Meri has. So what if it was written in the fifties. She does want to get married so why not follow the list and see what happens.

I liked Kai and knew from the beginning he had feelings for Meri. It is obvious to everyone but Meri. They make a great team filming as Meri goes through the list which I have to say is pretty funny. You can tell the story is going to have some bumps in the road as these two find themselves spending a lot of time together. The author does a great job of mixing Biblical truths about marriage with practical tips from the famous list that Meri is trying out.

Poor Kai is over his head as his feelings grow stronger for Meri. It isn’t possible that Meri is that blind that she doesn’t realize he likes her is it? There are a few moments that I wanted to tell them to stop filming and just be theirselves. The characters are well written and shows us how they each need to be happy with themselves before they can find happiness with someone else. I was surprised at the ending because I was so sure I knew what was going to happen. I loved the message of being happy even if you are not married . It is all in God’s timing and His plan for your life.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and Read With Audra Blogging team. The review is my own opinion. ( )

What a sense of humor this author has, and she has shared her enjoyment through her words with us. We have Meri Newberg, a 31 year old unmarried woman, whom feels that life has passed her by because she is unmarried. Enter her brother's roommate Kai, and now Meri's housemate, and now a 1950's list!

The list gives 101 different ways to attract a husband, yeah, some of them we've thought of, but with Kai's help and the new youtube channel, your in for a delightful treat! Can you picture using a rope and lassoing a man? Well, now there is a video!

You won't be disappointed as you page turn for the next quest in this journey, but I found myself laughing out loud at some of the situations that are presented!

Will Meri and Kai see what is in front of their eyes? Well we are along for the ride, or should I say tries and videos, and laughs. Enjoy Gemma and her breaking duck tape!

I will definitely be looking for books by this author!

I loved Husband Auditions by Angela Ruth Strong right up until the last chapter. This novel had solid writing with a steady flow that never wavered or got disrupted. The charming concept of using an antiquated list to find a husband led to some legitimately funny scenes. The themes about maturing before marriage and growing into the largeness of marriage worked well within the story and demonstrated a healthy mindset toward marriage. Furthermore, Kai and Mari grow as individuals and a couple. I loved their romance and rooted for them to get together.

Unfortunately, my appreciation for Husband Auditions dropped due to the open ending. I reached out to the author to ask if there would be a sequel. She replied that there was no sequel in the works, but there was a forthcoming novella featuring some of the side characters. The ending was so disappointing to me that I dropped my rating by a star.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I was provided a copy of this book by the author or publisher. All opinions in this review are my own. ( )
