I have always been fascinated by reading more about real-life people and their real-life situations. This book serves its purpose. Firstly, I was impressed with the authentically designed book cover. It is enough to generate your interest. But turning the pages and learning about powerful people and their lives would definitely make you more inclined towards it. This book unveils the untold stories about the inner lives of eight political wives as they try their hardest to maintain a balance between their roles and responsibilities and their personal goals. This includes famous people like Melania and Donald Trump, Hilary and Bill Clinton,Jackie and John F. Kennedy, Eleanor and Franklin D. Roosevelt, Marion Stein and Jeremy Thorpe, Wendy and David Vitter, Silda Wall and Elliot Spitzer, and Huma Abedin and Anthony Weiner. These real-life couples have one thing in common that connects their uniquely different journeys: all of them served as presidents, or we can say the most powerful men. And the author has unveiled how their counterparts have acted as a support system for them instead of being pawns, emerging as powerful wives with immense capacity for handling tough situations. The author has vividly explained the roles played by female characters in each story, and this empowers the women. This book would definitely be an eye-opener and support the fact that there is a woman behind every successful man. Although the data is more political, the interestingly woven storyline with characters will keep you hooked. “Why They Stay” Eight political wives by Anne Michaud. Another book about political wives? Haven't we been down this road before?" Maybe! But hold onto your hats, because Anne Michaud takes us on a wild ride that's more rollercoaster than scenic route. Michaud dives deep into the lives of these eight political wives, and it's like peeling back layers of an onion, except without the crying. Well, maybe a little crying, because let's be real, politics is messy. These women are not just "wives." They're powerhouses, and every bit as complicated as the political storms they weather. Michaud writes with a finesse that's both sharp and tender, like a cat that's giving you a massage but occasionally digs in a claw, in a good way! Now, I won't spill all the beans, because where's the fun in that? But let's just say, by the end of this book, I was looking at the political wives with a whole new lens. In a nutshell? "Why They Stay" is a deep dive into the world of politics, love, and resilience. It's like a therapy session, but with more scandals and fewer co-pays. So grab your favorite drink, snuggle up, and get ready for a journey. And maybe keep a notebook handy. Trust me, you'll want to take notes. Reading Why They Stay by Anne Michaud was an enlightening journey into the world of political wives and their complex decisions to stay with their husbands amidst scandal. Michaud's writing is both engaging and thought-provoking, making me feel as if I was part of the narrative. She delves into the lives of these women with empathy and a keen eye for detail, providing a nuanced perspective that is often overlooked. The book explores the personal and political implications of their decisions, and the societal pressures they face. After reading this, I guess I felt a deeper understanding of these women's experiences and the complexities of their choices. After reading I felt that these decisions are far from black and white, and are deeply intertwined with personal, familial, and political factors. Michaud's Why They Stay is a compelling read that offers a unique perspective on political scandals and the women who stand by their men. It's a book that made me think, question, and most importantly, empathise. Highly recommended for those interested in politics, gender dynamics, and human behaviour. I stumbled upon Why They Stay by Anne Michaud and sensed it was my cup of tea. It's a fascinating exploration of the wives of scandal-ridden politicians, delving into the reasons they choose to stay in their marriages. The book is a blend of history, psychology, and politics, all woven together with Michaud's engaging writing style. Reading this made me feel like I was getting a behind-the-scenes look at some of the most publicized political scandals. Michaud doesn't shy away from the complexities of these women's situations, instead, she presents them with empathy and understanding. After reading this, I felt like I had gained a new perspective on a topic that is often oversimplified in the media. The conclusion I came to after reading this was that the decisions these women make are far from straightforward and are influenced by a myriad of factors, many of which are overlooked in public discourse. I inhaled this book, captivated by the intimate details and the broader societal implications Michaud discusses. Why They Stay is a thought-provoking read that encourages readers to look beyond the headlines and consider the personal experiences of these women. I'm not sure why exactly, but this book resonated with me, and I believe it will do the same for many others.
I picked this non-fiction book because I have asked myself this question a thousand times. I have always wondered why Hillary Rodham Clinton did not divorce Bill Clinton after the Lewinsky debacle and knowing he is a serial cheater. She is a prominent person in her own right, so it does not make sense. When Anthony Weiner's sexting scandal went public, I thought his actions were disgusting. Huma staying with him bewildered me. Getting plausible answers to why women do not leave their husbands in cases like these was my favorite part of the book.
Second edition, updated from 2017 first edition, to include the marriage of Melania and Donald Trump. Also explores the reasoning of women who've stayed in a marriage after the politician-husbands cheat: Eleanor Roosevelt, Jackie Kennedy, Marion Stein, Hillary Clinton, Wendy Vitter, Silda Wall Spitzer, Huma Abedin. The book examines the attitudes with which they were raised toward marriage and fidelity. Written by a veteran journalist, the book employs journalistic techniques, interviews and precise references to sources. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

I have often wondered why intelligent, educated women such as Hilary Clinton and Elanor Roosevelt would tolerate such betrayal but glamour and prestige as well as the desire to protect family are powerful draw cards ensuring continued loyalty to the erring spouse.
I found the White Queen analogy of point scoring for various factors very interesting. The glimpses into the private lives of individuals I had only ever read about was fascinating and I applaud the author for the detail she provides.
This intriguing book ensured my interest to the very end and I look forward to reading more from this author. Highly recommended. ( )
