Title: The Holiday Switch by Tif Marcelo
Category/Genre: YA Contemporary Romance

Boy meets girl and girl meets boy in this adorable holiday romance. It includes the enemies to lovers trope which is my favorite romance trope. The romance ended up being adorable and everything I wanted it to be. But besides the cute romance, this book was about relationships, whether that be family or friends. It was about secrets and realizing that hiding things from the people you love and that love you probably isn't the best idea because if they really love you, they will support you no matter what.

Pros: Has a cute romantic relationship and a really great family relationship. A good choice if you want a quick holiday read.

Cons: I kind of wish there were more parts with Lila and her friend Carm.

Recommended for: People who like cheesy yet sweet romances.

Rating: 4 stars

p.s. Doing a review in the style of Lila's blog was really fun. ( )

Lila is hoping for extra hours over her winter break from high school when she learns that Teddy, her boss's nephew, will be coming to work over his college break. She's not happy about training him but agrees to do it. They make each other miserable because they are opposites. Lila is by the books while Teddy is whatever. Their phones end up switched and both learn a secret about the other. As they work more together, they see the other side and encourage each other over their secrets. Eventually, secrets have a way of coming out. Will they be able to deal with their secrets, their responsibilities, and their growing feelings?

I liked this story, but it took me a while to get into it. I liked Lila. She knew what she wanted and did what she needed to do to get it. She has a lot of responsibility on her shoulders between school, work, and her family. When everything comes to a head, I was glad to see her explain things to her mom. She was a very independent person and, I think, that is why everyone had those expectations of her. Teddy was laid back. He learns to see what Lila has to offer and understands her positions. He needs to be more responsible when it comes to his secret and not expect Lila to carry his secret along with her own. I liked how they came to support one another. I also liked watching them question the other about their choices and secrets. Lila's friends are also supportive of her. Her parents needed not to put so much responsibility on Lila remembering she is an American teenager.

The story was good. I liked Lila's blog. She had so much to say about books and reading. She and I could be BFFs. ( )

Books & Romance

I really enjoyed this “enemies to lovers” trope. How it starts off as an accidental switch of phones to a story about secrets, trust & finding your way. I really enjoyed the fact that the female protagonist was a lover of books & liked to blog! Definitely a book for those who enjoy holiday romance! ( )

The Story:

I just went back and read the synopsis to this book and it should be totally up my alley however nothing is grabbing me. I like Lila and her friends and how they are taking the season to get invested in all the Christmas tourist madness. Teddy is mysterious so far but I want to know more. Despite all of that my brain refuses to stay engaged in the story. So after nearly a month and only making it about ⅓ of the way through the book I am choosing to put it aside for more enjoyable reading.

*DNF so no rating
