This little book welcomed us in our hotel room in Hamburg. It was a delight to sample its entries, and it spurred me to get out and find some of the places featured. Unsurprisingly in a book with short entries by several authors, a few of the entries were pedestrian, while some others were so self-consciously literary that I had a hard time understanding them (German is not my first language). But most sparkled with enthusiasm for the bookstores, bars, cemeteries, and other locations they described. ( )
