He gets engaged to Disha, an eligible heiress found by his mother, but then meets the love of his life. It could be angsty and depressing but the author keeps it light and fun. The end does rather smack of hand-waving by the author rather than a genuine HEA, but that's only to say I would have just as happily read it if it had been half as long again. Read like a love letter to Mumbai. The story was simple, a little too predictable and fortuitous. The effects of Ved's actions were lessened because he and Disha were both "cheating", so the ending was a little too easy. Somehow all the people in his and Disha's life just wanted them to be happy, so the bow wrapped around the story was too neat. And his whole dream job sequence at the end almost cheapened the story. But not every story has to be realistic, and extremely happy endings with no consequences are also needed. Overall, it was a good read. I'm glad I read it. I had high hopes for The Other Man given it's gorgeous cover. However, I never engaged with the story. It seemed that I was reading about Ved Mehra's day as he might write about it in a mundane way in a journal. His days were boring. The plot concerns his mother's attempts to get him married. As a 38 year old single man, Ved finally agrees to an arranged marriage with Disha Kapoor. While the wedding preparations are underway Ved meets Carlos Silva and begins an affair with him. The thrust of the novel is whether Ved has the strength tell his parents that he is gay and live openly in Bombay as a gay man. As the plot moves on the reader learns how Ved became a closeted gay man. This is an interesting part of the plot as is his blossoming friendship with Disha. It is hard to tell which way Ved will ultimately go and it is all complicated because he is the heir to a big family business. Also, there is some sexual description but not alot. This one left me bored. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

A heartwarming and transporting romantic comedy about finding happy ever after on your own terms. Heir to his father's Mumbai business empire, Ved Mehra has money, looks, and status. He is also living as a closeted gay man. Thirty-eight, lonely, still reeling from a breakup, and under pressure from his exasperated mother, Ved agrees to an arranged marriage. He regrettably now faces a doomed future with the perfectly lovely Disha Kapoor. Then Ved's world is turned upside down when he meets Carlos Silva, an American on a business trip in India. As preparations for his wedding get into full swing, Ved finds himself drawn into a relationship he could never have imagined--and ready to take a bold step. Ved is ready to embrace who he is and declare his true feelings regardless of family expectations and staunch traditions. But with his engagement party just days away, and with so much at risk, Ved will have to fight for what he wants--if it's not too late to get it. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
