Sharon McCone is hired by her husbands security firm to track down the "ever-running man", who has been setting off eexplosive devices at their various offices. She doesn't have to look for long. When McCone narrowly escapes an explosion in her apartment building, she catches a glimpse of his retreating figure. The ever running man is dangerously close and it seems that anyone connected to the firm is within his deadly range. Complicating matters is McCones discovery of the firms shady past. Forced to question her reluctant husband Hy about its history tof corruption, she puts her marriage in jeopardy. But uncovering the secrets of the firm may be the only way she can save her husband's life and her own. ( ) Sharon McCone book, deals with investigation of husbands partners. The ever running man is the bomber attacking their offices. Conflict between Sharon and hubby seems to be manufactured to fit needs of story. Good entertainment. Many characters from earlier stories reintroduced. Good entertainment, but not terribly enriching. Every few books in this series Muller likes to dig into the lives of one or two of the regular (or at semi-regular and familiar) characters from the series. She juggles it all up and we end up with character development too as everything moves on just like things do in the real world. This approach to changing the series works really well for me.
This time it's Hy Ripinsky and his business partners, the slightly shady Renshaw and Kessell, who run a big security firm who are getting the McCone investigative treatment.
Marcia Muller would have to write a truly dreadful book for me to think it was bad, but even accounting for bias towards a favoured author I'm glad to say that this is still quality mystery writing with no sign of deteriorating. This is the 25th in the Sharon McCone mystery series, and I’ve read all of the previous volumes. Muller is skillful at blending the mystery and danger with McCone’s domestic travails, and this book is no exception. I raced through it, like all of the others. It’s not the knottiest of puzzles, in retrospect, but it will do, and Muller respects her readers by not crossing the line into the implausible or out of character. That being said, there is an inherent problem that authors of long-running “domestic detective” series run into. The supporting cast keeps mounting with every installment, and there is a temptation to bring every one of them into the next book. While it’s inevitable that you cover some backstory in each book, Muller spends most of the first forty pages alluding to the cast members. I didn’t count, but there are thirty or forty recurring characters – family, friends, employees at McCone’s agency, her husband’s partners – that are mentioned, some of them in such a peripheral way that one wonders to what end. This must be confusing to readers new to the series, and I’d definitely recommend that they start at the beginning for full enjoyment. Sharon McCone is nearly killed when a huge explosion rips through her temporary apartment at her husband's security firm building. Apparently the "ever-running man," glimpsed at other attacks on the company, has struck again. McCone is hired by the firm to get to the bottom of it, and as she begins to uncover unsavory secrets about the business, she begins to doubt her husband's honesty. A twisty plot for a long-running PI legend. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
