i love van de Weterings books about his Buddhist experieces. His mysteries are competently done but tend to be a bit grim for my taste,.This time an unidentified male body is found stuffed in a car, trunk ( )

In one of the investigations in 'The Mind-Murders',we have a killer without a corpse and in another a corpse without a killer. Grijpstra and de Gier are really in deep water (or at least one of them is) in these two rather strange cases.
While usually a great enthusiast of ' The Amsterdam Cops' series,this particular one does not quite work. It seems to me that the writer was at times on an extreme acid trip in this rather confused story.
The continuing facts that emerge about the life of Commissaris,who is a wonderful character,are added to in this book. At the point where he is forced to meet two German police officers late in the book (he had been imprisoned and tortured by the nazi's in the war) is poignant indeed.
So,overall,although not one of his better efforts,this story does have it's moments and is certainly worth reading. ( )

Der Mann wehrt sich wütend. Immer wieder schlägt er mit seiner Krücke nach dem Polizisten, der ihm nachgesprungen ist, um ihn aus dem schleimigen Wasser der Gracht zu holen. Eine Zuschauermenge spendet begeistert Beifall, besonders als Brigadier de Gier sich auszieht, um seinem Kollegen zu Hilfe zu kommen. Abendliche Unterhaltung in Amsterdam. Besser jedenfalls als Mord und Totschlag.
Einen Mord gibt es trotzdem. Die Leiche findet sich im Kofferraum eines Mercedes ...
