The author does not make known the results of the crash. Were there survivors or not? Then the scene switched to introduce main characters former FBI Special Agent Jack Tanner now a detective in Montana and US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors as they are trying to determine if the person, they have found is alive. They were searching the forest for a set of twins and stumbled upon a body that had not been there long. I like how the story goes along with the current investigation all the while showing the reader flash back to Jack and Terra’s were an item in their young adult years. This is an enjoyable intriguing story with complex characters I enjoyed hanging out with. I felt as if I were watching an action-packed movie as the story explodes on the ground, in the air and in unexpected locations. This is the first novel in a new series. I am excited to see where this series goes next. The author says in note to readers, “…I’ve always been fascinated with artifacts trafficking…in this context I wanted the story to reflect a global issue, one of many that happens behind the scenes and in the cover of darkness – places like the dark web or even online and right “in our face,” as it were.”…”we can relate on some level. We all grew up watching and loving Indiana Jones, but in truth he is a tomb raider….” I loved the Indiana Jones movies and found this book gripping and heart felt. So, grab your coffee sit by the fire and get ready for a mind-bending adventure that will make your head spin (in a good way). This would work great for your next book club pick. It is a wild ride you do not want to miss! Disclosure of Material Connection: I have received a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher through NetGalley. The Book Club Network blog www.bookfun.org ![]() The characters are likable, if flawed. Each main character has strengths and weaknesses. I suspect some of the minor characters will get fleshed out more in subsequent books if they're set in this setting. Jack is driven--wanting to prove that he's not like his father, upset that he didn't save his cousin Sarah in time--and caring, returning to care for Aunt Nadine, who raised him, when she seems to have dementia. Tessa strives to live up to her late mother's heroism and is affected by her father leaving them with their grandfather and walking out on them as well as Jack walking out on her years before to pursue his dream. Their lives intersect again when a murder investigation turns up a possible artifact-selling ring. All the stories have twists that you might not expect. For most of the book, this read more like a gentle mystery than a suspense book. There were some moments of suspense, but more investigation than suspense. I agree with another reviewer who said many of these books rely on the romantic interests having had a past together to circumvent the "they fell deeply in love in a short time" pitfall. It is a bit of an overworked plot in this genre. *Note: I received an ARC of this book from LibraryThing's Early Reviewers program with the expectation of providing an honest review. ![]() When Terra Conners agrees to assist on a murder case; the last person she plans on seeing is Jack Tanner – the guy who left her fifteen years ago with no explanation. Jack was an FBI agent who is now with the Sherriff’s department. Lots of history has happened since Jack left and somehow a lot of it is tied to this case. Terra’s father has been a no show for most of her life; as has Jack’s. What we learn about them in this book is fascinating. Indian artifacts, Mid-Eastern artifacts and greed all play a part as well. Terra and Jack are not only fighting to learn the truth behind the they are fighting to save their loved ones. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
