This was a great medical thriller. It has intrigue, edge-of-your seat moments, and medical/genetic advancements that, if they're not already possible, are probably in the not-so-far-off future. Greene made it seem so realistic that I had chills running down my spine just thinking about it. Erica is a great heroine, and she has such a big heart, it's hard not to like her. My heart really went out to Ting and her situation, and I love that Erica was so determined to help her, even with the mounting danger around them. If you enjoy medical thrillers, you'll quickly find yourself wrapped up in this one. ( )

I thought this would be more similar to Christine Feehan's Ghostwalkers series. But while it's very different, the concept behind the plot is intriguing.
It's a little long-winded in parts and I found myself skimming to get to the action quicker.
It is a fascinating, potentially cautionary tale about the field of genetic manipulation and designer babies.
I received a copy via Librarything and all opinions are my own. ( )

Doesn't feel like a sci fi; it is too real and close to the real thing that it gives the reader pause. Written also like a spy thriller, it is a page turner. I won't do a spoiler and tell you if everyone lives happily ever after, or if the whole world goes to hell. I enjoyed the read, and encourage everyone to take a look. ( )

The main character is a smart young pediatrician who decides to risk her life to go undercover to save a family from crooked government medical experiments. I am going to read more by this author, because the characters are realistic and engaging, even though they have fantastic adventures.

I liked the book's handling of romance and sex: Not a lot of buildup, suspense or adjectives, just a description of some character activities to move along the narrative about the main action in the book, which was espionage and protecting children. Another feature I liked was the medical information that developed the main challenge to the endangered family and their doctor. It was interesting and seemed plausible and well researched (though I am no expert, I am a nurse, and it rang true). Another reviewer has written that it is a good choice for fans of medical thrillers, and I agree. ( )

When a young Chinese girl with blue eyes shows up in her pediatric clinic, Dr. Erica quickly becomes more involved with the family than she ever expected. After discovering that the son has very unusual hemoglobin, Erica speaks to Ting and learns of an illegal gene editing program in China. When it is revealed that a third child is still in China, Erica goes undercover with her roommate to rescue the child and record evidence of the illegal program.

Although this book had an interesting premise, I thought the book was extremely dry. The author continually told us what was going to happen, and continually went over worries about what they were doing. This made the action, when it finally happened, extremely anticlimactic. Unfortunately, this is not a book that I would reread or recommend. ( )
