Fiction. Romance. Christian Fiction. HTML:

The last thing he wants to do is return home.

Cole Barrett, former Army Ranger, has a new mission objective. Sell his grandfather's house and put Deep Haven in his rearview mirror as fast as possible. Deep Haven holds the hurts of physical abuse at the hands of his grandfather, a man now in a memory care facility with dementia. Recently divorced, single, and unattached, Cole just wants a new life as a US Marshal. One where he can forget the past and start new.

Unfortunately, there's a tenant in the garage apartment who's refusing to move. Even worse? It's his childhood crush, Megan Carter, and her son.

She's waited years for her first love to return.

Wedding planner and single mom Megan Carter is no stranger to Deep Haven. To her, it's the place where she makes dreams come true??at least, everyone else's. Her big dream is to purchase the Black Spruce Bed & Breakfast to turn it into a premier event venue and, if she can stay booked for enough weddings over winter, she'll have enough money to buy the inn, move out of Grandpa Barrett's garage apartment, and finally give her nine-year-old son, Josh, the life he deserves. After using part of her intended down payment to cover his hockey fees, she's behind on her Black Spruce funds and only has thirty days to come up with four thousand dollars.

Still, she's oh, so close...until her childhood friend-slash-crush, Cole Barrett, returns to Deep Haven. Unfortunately, he's not back to fulfill a silly childhood promise to marry her, but she never expected him to evict her! The last thing she needs is more expenses. Or for another man to walk into her heart...and break it.

Maybe it's never to late to finish a love story...

When a blizzard strikes Deep Haven, and Megan is overrun with wedding catastrophes, it takes a former Ranger to step in and help. But the more he comes to her rescue, the sooner she'll be able to move out...and he can move on.

And that's what they both want, right?

Return to Deep Haven with this magical tale about the one who got away...and came back.

Confession I haven't read Susan May Warren's Deep Haven books yet. I found out about her books after those released, I first read her Heirs of Anton series followed by several other series. And finding out there will be more of the Deep Haven books from Susan May Warren and new DEBUT authors like Rachel D. Russell makes me very happy to dig into all of the books!

Still the One is the kind of book one cannot help relating to since there is such hope, faith, and love in the pages of a novel that grips your heart and refuses to let go.

As I haven't read any Deep Haven books (YET!) I was somewhat lost when it came to some things and characters that you were supposed to know things about, but it did not take away from my enjoyment of the story. The fact that Cole is a veteran was no small pull in my want to read this story, and I loved finally getting to meet him, Megan, Josh, and the others.

The wedding planning, my goodness, can I be a wedding planner, pretty please?! I loved every detail, it was just so cool to read about weddings being plan amidst a romance of the characters' own.

The conflict was done in such a way that I did shake my head but I didn't want to hunt the character down to make them see what was going on … I loved seeing what happened with Cole, his past, and healing from the mistakes of his family.

Since this is a romance, it is not for everyone however those who enjoy small-town romance, family ties, and hope in their literary indulgences will find this a need to read.

I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary e/copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Still the One by Susan May Warren and Rachel D. Russel is book one in the Deep Haven Collection series. Cole is back in Deep Haven just long enough to get his grandfather's home sold. But when he gets there he finds not only the house needing tons of repairs, but also a renter with a lease not wanting to move. Megan is trying so hard to save up money to buy a building for her wedding planning company and just cannot afford to pay higher rent. Cole and Megan were childhood friends and both have issues from their past they have to deal with to move on.
I am so glad the author has decided to have another series based in Deep Haven. I was swept right back to Deep Haven and caught up with many of the Christiansen family. It was so fun to read this book as it felt like going home and visiting old friends. There are so many things I enjoyed with this story. Cole is very helpful to Megan and her son, even as he wants to get the home sold. He is also able to forgive his grandfather for the way he was treated. I enjoyed reading this story that showed the importance of having faith without getting preachy.

For every reader that find saying goodbye to a series, and thus the characters and settings, Still the One by Rachel D. Russell proves that fresh life can be breathed into a beloved series.

This book is set in Susan May Warren’s story world of Deep Haven (which featured two series by Warren) but Russell’s author voice gives it a unique tone while bring back some of those Christiansen siblings as well as some other familiar faces while centering the book around completely new characters.

Cole and Megan both carry burdens from their pasts. They both have made mistakes and those affect many areas of their present lives. And that’s what makes so relatable. They’re human, flawed, and desire love and acceptance and the road they travel is a bumpy one filled with plenty of potholes and detours.

Still the One is a story of love, forgiveness, healing, and second chances that had me rooting for Megan and Cole from the start. Plus, there’s plenty of sizzle in there too. Russell is definitely an author to keep an eye on.

Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own. ( )

Coming home. It's a heartwarming vision in and of itself, but when you pair it with reconnecting with a childhood friend that has held a special place in your heart for years, it gives your heart all the feels.

Still the One is the story of Cole Barrett coming back to Deep Haven, his childhood home, with an agenda: get his grandfather's house sold as soon as possible so that he can begin a new life with a new job as a Deputy US Marshall in DC. What he didn't bargain for was running into his childhood friend, Megan Carter.

From the moment Cole and Megan meet again you can feel the attraction between these two. Megan's character is completely relatable, being a single mom running a wedding planning business, and trying to hold everything together for her and her son, Josh. The character flaws in both Cole and Megan are true to life and poetically beautiful.

My favorite moments of the story were seeing Cole, Megan, and Josh interacting as a family. I loved the small town feel and the concept of friends falling in love has always been one of my favorite troupes.

Still the One is a cozy, small town Christian romance that envelops you, making you feel like you're there witnessing the events of Deep Haven for yourself. It is well written and I seemed to devour it quite quickly.

This is my first time reading anything from the Deep Haven collection, but I must admit I am hooked, and plan on reading more from this incredibly sweet, yet down-t0-earth series.

Still the One by Rachel D. Russell and Susan May Warren kickstarts the Deep Haven Collection Series. Although it functioned as a stand-alone, I recognized the Deep Haven setting and the Christiansen family members from Susan May Warren’s original Christiansen family series. This novel had its own characters to love, but brought back Darek, Ivy, Casper, Raina, and a few others. Rachel D. Russell’s writing style felt akin to Susan May Warren’s current style.

I enjoyed reading Still the One and stayed interested throughout the story despite some plot points feeling formulaic and predictable. The second-chance romance was clean and included a relaxed level of tension (not the I-can’t-put-it-down kind). I could relate to both Cole’s wrestling with unforgiveness and Megan’s struggle to trust God with situations.

Still the One is a solid debut novel by Rachel D. Russell that fuses romance, spiritual issues, and life situations into a story that points to the God who can redeem all things. Readers who have enjoyed Susan May Warren’s prior Deep Haven novels will likely enjoy Still the One by Rachel D. Russell and Susan May Warren.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I was provided a copy of this book by the author or publisher. All opinions in this review are my own. ( )
