There was no chance to catch my breath while I was reading "The Chase" by Lisa Harris!

I fell in love with Harris' US Marshals series when I read "The Escape" and fell in love with Madison's and Jonas' story and seeing US Marshals since I've read so many suspense books with other agencies and not so many with about the Marshals.

One of the plot lines is quite like one of my favorite mystery movies which makes me adore this book even more. There were things that I wished didn't happen and I also was really sad at some of the twists but this book left me eager for the next one!

I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary e/copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. ( )

The Chase is the second book in a trilogy. A continuing thread through the three books is that Madison James, a U. S. Marshall, was shot point-blank and has no memory of the identity of her assailant. I had not read the first book in the trilogy before beginning this story, and that may account, in part, for my unfavorable reaction. References to characters introduced and events in the first book suggest that readers would benefit from reading the first book in the series before reading this entry. However, I cannot recommend this book.

Try as I might, The Chase did not hold my interest. The plot was intriguing enough that curiosity repeatedly motivated me to return to the book. But I set the book aside again each time after reading a chapter or two. After three weeks of sporadic efforts to generate interest, I feel no urge to return to the novel.

In addition to my reaction to this story, the prospect of finishing this book and another to find out who shot Madison James and why is a strong disincentive to read further. ( )

Lisa Harris is the author you want to read for great mysteries and thrillers. The Chase provided both. U.S. Marshall Madison James is just coming off a medical leave after being shot in her own home by an unknown assailant. Her husband, a doctor, was murdered just five years before and his killer never found. Lisa cannot remember her assailant even though she looked right at him as he shot her. This novel leaves one with the impression that there will be more to this in subsequent novels.

Her partner, Jonas Quinn, has received a warrant for persons involved in a string of bank robberies. Lisa insists that she is fine to work with him. This case is strange though. The last robbery has gone wrong, but the robbers escape with a carefully contrived exit strategy. It seems that these persons are only after the thrill of it, not the money.
I received a free print copy of this book from Revell, for my honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

I am so behind on my reading, especially when it comes to series I have begun. I read The Escape by Lisa Harris several years ago with my book club. I had all intentions of finishing off the next 2 books in that series as they were released. That was a big fat fail. LOL! So I decided to download the audiobook of The Chase a few weeks ago as I had resumed my walking routine. The romantic suspense featuring two US Marshalls was an easy listen that could be picked up for an hour or so every day. While the novel does continue a thread begun in the first book, The Chase mainly focused on a bank robbery and subsequent fugitive hunt. It was generally entertaining with lots of action. However, I found some of the things the Marshalls did hard to believe. They get themselves in several sticky situations that would have been prevented with proper backup. I am not in law enforcement, but having read and watched numerous police novels and TV programs, I am kind of an expert. 😉 Seriously, I think going into a situation without adequate communication or without someone knowing what you were doing seemed farfetched. Will this keep me from reading the next book in the series? Nope, I am committed to the conclusion of the continuing thread begun in book 1 and explored in this book. I just have to know what’s going on and whodunit! I also am eager to get the two main characters into a romantic relationship!

The Chase was an okay read for me, but I like this author and the characters too much to give up now!

Audience: Adults.

(I purchased the audiobook from Audible. All opinions expressed are mine alone.) ( )
