"Baroness Agnès de Saint-Aubin is a young Parisian doctor with a mysterious past. She follows the attractive -- but married -- Dr. Alan Bell to the front lines at the Château de Dragoncourt in Picardy, where they help battle the horrors of the trench war. When the castle is captured by German soldiers, the war turns personal as Agnès's secret becomes both a terrible liability -- and a might weapon. Until Alan is severely injured and her world falls apart. Countess Madeleine, the young go-getter of the Dragoncourt family, is furious that she's been sidelined to a Swiss finishing school. Knowing her place is in the thick of the action, she runs away to join her siblings who are working as medics at the Château. Upon learning that it's fallen to the Germans, Madeleine is determined to effect a rescue of the French doctors and nurses held prisoner within. But what can a mere teenager do against the German army?"--Back cover.… (más)

"In Picardy's Fields" takes place in the last year of World War I in Paris and Picardy and is the 1st novel in a historical fiction "Resistance Girl" series. Hannah Byron is the pseudonym used by Hannah Ferguson.

I feel it is important to be aware of the information on the author's website that identifies the author's transition from contemporary romance to historical fiction. Although some medical and historical research was undertaken at times, the novel reads more as a historical romance novel.
"Byron’s books are sprinkled with a generous scoop of romance and suspense. She attempts to write in such a way that her stories are also easily accessible to readers who traditionally wouldn’t pick up a histfic novel because they’re afraid it’s stuffy and boring. Though Byron work is slower paced than a contemporary novel, she compares it to the difference between fast food and slow food. Both taste good at their own moments and variety is the spice of live."
I enjoyed the story of courage and sacrifice that shows the resilience and support of multiple female characters that chose their roles in adverse conditions that were totally unfamiliar to each of them prior to wartime. ( )

Picardy's Fields by Hannah Byron
Enjoyed this book about Agnes and Maddie and how each are able to do their career and also help the resistance.
Maddy even finds a man in a German uniform claiming to be American and others question him and find him reputable and allow him to get medical attention.
Monkey is quite comical and many help to bring the animal back to health.
Others also find another and listen to the exchange of the nurse on duty. Scary times when you can't tell who's your friend or foe and can't just them by what they wear.
She takes a liking to one of the guards on duty...
Story has a lot of action and perfectly described in detail I felt I was there.
She really puts herself in harms way all for the resistance but Agnes knows what to do...
Family secrets and who her father is I found shocking, never saw that coming!
Love that this is NOT a predictable typical story.
Received this review copy from the author via LinkedIn connection and this is my honest opinion. ( )
