Nothing groundbreaking, but pretty enjoyable. (Initial feeling was 4*; a week later, it's more of a 3*.) I liked the relationship talk more in this one than the others; felt more invested both Kim and Will than I had in the previous books. I did think the book was going to end, and then... a whole other climax happened. It was unsubtle and unnecessary and changed one of the culprits from a massive asshole into a cartoon villain. Whatever! ( )

More self-contained than the other books, this felt like a truly "final book". Declarations got made, old friends got settled as well, all's well that end's well. I will say the mystery didn't feel that important (although it was) because it didn't directly affect Kim or Will, but still enjoyable.

These two main characters are a good team and good influences on each other. I like them. I laughed and smiled and felt warm and fuzzy. I enjoyed it. ( )

I preordered this the day it came available, and if there's ever another, I'll do it again. This is a sorting-out third in a romance series to hang your hopes on. Just wonderful, in and around all the intrigue and threats. Will is terrific even when he screws up, Kim so quick as facts are revealed that I caught myself holding my breath during one scene, and the ladies are brilliant. I would very much like to see this as a miniseries! ( )

This was a nice bow to tie up the series with. The two main characters are definitely some of my fave and the pulp murder mystery plots were really well executed.
While it's a bit bittersweet the series ended here, it would have probably gotten a little repetitive. This final book, while just as good as the first two, was kind of a rehash of the arc over the previous books in that Zodiac, the criminal enterprise Kim has been fighting against, was disbanded after the death of their leader but the bureau had yet to capture them all and surprise! they're back to cause more mayhem. The series could have definitely ended in two books but since I like the author and these characters so much I'm glad it didn't.
There isn't much more to say. KJ Charles is one of the best writers in the MM historical genre and I can't wait to see what's next. ( )
