Family Drama Admittedly, I started reading the book after watching the series on Netflix. One thing that is starting to bother me, the characters are strong and stand by their point-of-view and then within the last chapter, a switch is flipped as if the author realizes that she should be wrapping up the book and just could not do a good tie in. To me it seems, there is no real problem solving going on. I do not agree at all with Dana Sue and filing for sole custody of her daughter after the divorce, especially since Annies dad was not violent, absent etc. As a parent I reject the fact the she purposely kept her daughter from her father and her resentment caused a big conflict in Annie. So I am not really to impressed with that. I only read this because of the Netflix series, Sweet Magnolias, which I really enjoyed. This book must be where the tv show began to veer away from the books. I was disappointed there was no hot organic gardener guy. Dana Sue is still running Sullivan's and she's still having some health issues. Annie, her daughter, has developed an eating disorder and its getting out of hand. After Annie collapses at a sleep over, Dana Sue learns just how serious the situation is and she calls her ex husband to let him know he needs to come home. Which he does, immediately. Ron knows this is his only chance to be the father Annie needs, and maybe it can even lead to a second chance to be the husband Dana Sue needs. He's back home and ready to fight for the marriage he carelessly destroyed. Just like the first book in this series, it wasn't life changing but it was a mostly fun read. The Sweet Magnolias series is one that I am so glad I am reading! I have read three books in this series so far and LOVED each one. They have had me in stitches laughing and sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see how things turn out. Sherryl Woods is an excellent story teller and her grasp of the nuances romance, southern life and small town living lends charm and laughter to an already great romance read. I highly recommend The Sweet Magnolia book series! 'A Slice of Heaven' is a second chance romance, but it has a big trigger warning about food disorders. As Annie, the daughter of our main character couple, Dana Sue & Ronnie, suffers and is treated for anorexia. I am continuing the series of 'The Sweet Magnolias' because I liked the first book and liked the first season of the TV series on Netflix. (Hopefully, soon we will have the second season as it left on a cliff hanger and very open ending.) Not only was this novel a great romance. The book is also a great way to highlight some of the physical and body image issues that many women face. It was nice to read about other women having issues. I absolutely adore the friendship that Dana Sue, Maddie & Helen have and how they help one another. Looking forward to reading Helen's story next as I have it on my physical TBR. I am sure to continue with the series because I love the main and secondary characters, and I want to find out how their stories will get involved and resolved. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
