I think some of the relationships between characters could have been made a bit more complex and interesting, but overall the story and the pacing was good, with some nice twists and reveals along the way. For me I have such high expectations with this book after reading Never Have I Ever, however, it fell short for me. The beginning and end was thrilling, but the middle was a bit prolonged for me. Which sounds like a straightforward action thriller becomes so much more: A breath-taking page turner that I couldn't put down, but also a novel raising questions about guilt, responsibility, class, money and motherhood. There are gothic vibes, too, the twists are surprising, and I loved the characters.
