Kevin Hearne describes his science fiction debut novella as "shenanigans in space." Which I suppose is fine. Its your basic aliens capture humans to torture, taunt, and eat them while the humans prove their superiority through numbers by killing the hell out of the aliens while declaring their love and appreciation for their fellow humans. As a novella that you can read quickly and put down its not a bad book. If it was any longer the character's mannerisms might get really annoying and you might start thinking about the plot. And you don't want to think about the plot because as soon as you do all the holes in the plot become painfully apparent. And then you won't like the story any more. And its a quick amusing story where the good guys (that's the humans) are good, righteous, morally superior people who kill the shit out of the mean sadistic bad guys (those are the aliens). Enjoy it for what it is.

Oh, and the author *really* wants you to know where to find his favorite brewery and beer, because I can't imagine any other reason for name dropping with the location. ( )
