This collection of poems reads almost like a diary or scrapbook of Fernie and his best friend, who have been friends since they were babies They experience the emotional ups and downs of middle school life together, including frustrations of school sports, interesting substitute teachers, trying and failing to be fashionable, moodiness, insatiable appetites, a sugar-rush inspired love note, experimenting with art, and having fun outdoors. Through it all, they are there for each other, forever friends.

Fearless Fernie is a book that has poems about two best friends who love to explore things together. In every paragraph, you can see what they are doing in their daily lives. Even when they were babies, they would crawl across the grass away from their mothers. Fernie would always protect his best friend that he follows him everywhere he goes. Fernie also has a big imagination when it comes to emotions. When Fernie is happy, he puts a pair of wax lips on his mouth. He also has other things that he does that show what he feels at a certain time. Fernie and his friend can be painting windows or working out in the garage. They can really have lots of fun together.

Fearless Fernie is a book that is simply about two friends and how they explore life together. I like to read books that has poems and letters that tells about people's daily lives. I would give this book to a 5th grader who loves to read poems about boys who do crazy things. ( )

Educational read on encountering different forms of trials and tribulations of childhood and adolescence. Felt like the poems were extremely short stories, without having to look too deep for the meaning behind each verse. I would recommend this book to an adolescent needing to “find themselves” and encourage them to discover their emotions through poetry. Plus, a quick and easy read.

The illustrations are fun and provide room for ample imagination. It's a different kind of poetry that works for just about anyone. It's also very relatable.

This book has book about friendship. It is also good because it talks about life as an adolescent. (specifically, a middle- schooler.) ( )
