Since its first publication in 1958, The New American Roget's College Thesaurus has reached more than fifteen million copies in print. Now, as The Penguin Roget's College Thesaurus in Dictionary Form, it has been totally revised, reset, and modernized in both form and content -- for the first time ever. Its more than 1,500 new entries will keep users thoroughly up to date with today's expanding language, current colloquialisms, and slang expressions. It contains many more listings under a variety of entries, a listing of antonyms throughout, and the addition of categorized quotations. This larger format edition -- with an improved cross-referencing system and an increased quantity of double-column material -- is easier to use than ever before and remains the essential resource for students and writers of every stripe.… (más)

I know--who uses a thesaurus now when you can google definitions, antonyms and synonyms. Roget's at one time was the thesaurus of choice, and a paperback edition was cheap and handy. But I have to echo one reviewer who complained that with alternatives a click away, it's just annoying to deal with such eye-sight challenging font. I wouldn't rule out getting a larger type hardcover edition, but the utility of this paperback is very limited and it hasn't been used for years. ( )

Time was that when vocabulary proved wanting (and verbal labor Sisyphean), that a paperback Roget could be counted on for prompt deliverence from adversity. But this 1958 paperback has sat on my shelf unused for decades, a hapless victim of technology -- and in that time, its print has shrunken to microscopic proportions. This would be a collector's item to someone who collected such things. Parting is sweet sorrow, but I guess the time has come. This review is my parting note of appreciation.

Now yellowed and dog-eared, it's still my favorite thesaurus. Words are in dictionary order and many entries have a quarter-page or more of synonyms, related terms, and parts of speech that are conceptually similar. "Lawsuit", for example, leads you to other legal terms and cross-references (cause, legality, plea, etc.); "judge" and other people in the justice system; "court" and other legal entities; verbs (sue, litigate, accuse....); and adjectives (litigious, judicial, legal....). Published in hardcover as The Penguin Roget's College Thesaurus in Dictionary Form, this new paperback edition of the 20-million-copy bestselling thesaurus has been fully revised, expanded, and updated for the modern home, school, or office.
