This was literally a Regency-era version of The Bachelor. :P Like even more blatantly than your usual Regency house-party plot. It was a little...uncomfortable, I guess, to have it so overtly spelled out within the dialogue that all these women are vying for this one guy, but I really liked Mr. Hill and Tillie and thought they were very sweet together! If you're looking for a sweet escape read, this is probably it. ( )

When her spoiled young mistress balks at her parents' choice of a possible husband, companion/maid Tillie Sherbrooke finds herself taking her place as one of the eligible Mr. Hill's possibilities as a wife. Tillie is mandated to make herself as objectionable as possible, but Mr. Hill has finds Tillie charming. He has some issues of his own to deal with but it all works out in the end in this charming story.
The two are a lovely couple and fit together much better than any of the other possible choices. Their conversation is sweet and I really liked the premise, a sort of Cinderella spin. The plot is unique (I've read a lot of Regency books) and I loved the twist at the end. I definitely recommend this delightful book. ( )
