This book is as thorough as it can be, given its broad subject and its huge allocation of space to photos and artwork, Most of us would have preferred to have a version that nearly dispensed with the graphics and dealt more on the focus of the title, with music history. That would have reduced its weight from my measured ten pounds down to a more common weight of a pound or so. My measured height and width of 12.1 inches by 10.1 inches, not 10 by 12 inches, precludes me from putting it on any shelf in my library. If you obtain this book, use height-adjustable very deep shelving or leave out permanently on a table. ( ) This coffee-table sized book provides enough information for three or four volumes of a more-handable book. In addition to the history and lots of photos, there are lists of Most Notable compositions for each era and all of these - or least the ones I looked at so far- can be enjoyed on youtube. It's quite a trip and I'll tripping for at least six more months.
That book is very good. I really like it
