There's no plot to this, just the same rhyming pattern on each page, e.g. "Tub is boat if you sing out that you've set sail again." It celebrates imagination and has classic illustrations. The only thing I didn't get was "Bear is friend if you believe that bears can see and hear." Um, I think live bears can in fact see and hear--and believing that (as most sane people do) does not make them your friends. I guess she meant Teddy Bear, but still. The illustration is of a pretty realistic-looking bear. ( )

A young boy and girl are playing. They pretend that mud is cake, juice is tea, stick is wand, bear is friend, etc. They know that anything can happen when you use your imagination.

I liked this book because the illustrations were very creative and descriptive.

As you read, describe how the pictures help tell the story. Tell students to imagine something and tell a partner. Discuss the why the following words are important in this book: pretend, believe, think, trust, and create.

Have students retell the story with as many details as they can remember. Have students identify the characters and settings in the story. Have students describe the relationship between illustrations and the story. ( )

A boy and a girl are free playing around their house. Whether is outside or inside, they always find something. An object, place or thing that makes their imagination explode with creativity. They turn a porch into a stage and a pot into a drum. Anything and anywhere they go they find a creative game to play.

This book is a rhyming book. Students can go through and find the matching words or phrases. It also has a lot of figurative language that can inspire students to use in their writing. The main idea of the book is to inspire children of all ages to use their imagination and free play with anything around them. Toys or places do not need to be fancy to have fun. The most simple objects are what makes the fun.

I could see this book inspiring small children during free play. And older children can use it when reading or writing their own stories. ( )

This cute rhythmic book portrays young children who use their imagination to dream up anything that is possible. This book show children that no matter where you are or what you have at your disposal, anything is possible with just a little imagination. Open the doors to your mind, leap into this book, and imagine a special place of your own. ( )

Loved this book. It was a short and sweet tale with beautiful illustrations. In this book, Pam Munoz Ryan celebrates the magic of a child's imagination. Anything can be possible, or fun if you think it to be, even mud can be cake! ( )
