This is a non-fiction book that follows the rescue of the Thai soccer team that were trapped in a cave after a giant storm. There are many images and diagrams showing the rescue and the cave system they were stuck in. There were also many images describing the concern of oxygen levels and the water leaking through the limestone. I think this would be a good individual read for 6th-8th grade students to learn about the what happened and the dangers of flooding. Within the class, a lesson could be taught about what is non-fiction and what is fiction and this could be a book that students could view and decide if it was fiction or non-fiction. Fantastic middle grade nonfiction book! Although the reader knows that all 13 boys made it out of the tunnel, Soontornvat builds suspense by highlighting in great details the steps taken to rescue the Wild Boars soccer team. Readers learn about science, geo-politics, Thai culture, Buddhism, etc. as they follow the harrowing experience of the boys and the extreme stress of the international rescue team. As Soontornvat noted - this was the recuse that wasn't supposed to work. Amazing story of the boys' survival and the ingenuity of the rescuers. Account of the harrowing rescue of the Thai soccer team that found themselves stranded in a flooded cave in 2018. Told in a narrative format, with detailed pictures throughout, this is a fascinating story that is inspiring for the reader. Recommended for grades 4 through 8, but all ages above that will also enjoy. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

HTML: A unique account of the amazing Thai cave rescue told in a heart-racing, you-are-there style that blends suspense, science, and cultural insight. On June 23, 2018, twelve young players of the Wild Boars soccer team and their coach enter a cave in northern Thailand seeking an afternoon's adventure. But when they turn to leave, rising floodwaters block their path out. The boys are trapped! Before long, news of the missing team spreads, launching a seventeen-day rescue operation involving thousands of rescuers from around the globe. As the world sits vigil, people begin to wonder: how long can a group of ordinary kids survive in complete darkness, with no food or clean water? Luckily, the Wild Boars are a very extraordinary "ordinary" group. Combining firsthand interviews of rescue workers with in-depth science and details of the region's culture and religion, author Christina Soontornvatâ??who was visiting family in Northern Thailand when the Wild Boars went missingâ??masterfully shows how both the complex engineering operation above ground and the mental struggles of the thirteen young people below proved critical in the life-or-death mission. Meticulously researched and generously illustrated with photographs, this page-turner includes an author's note describing her experience meeting the team, detailed source notes, and a bibliography to fully immerse readers in the most ambitious cave rescue in history No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
