Penny the Pony Fairy
2008. 73pp. $4.99 pbk. Scholastic, Inc. 978-0-5450-4190-4. Grades 1-3
In the seventh and final book of the Pet Fairy series, best friends Kirsty and Jessica have to help Penny the pony fairy find her sparkly white pet pony Glitter. Making their task more difficult are goblins, who want the pony for themselves, and Jack Frost, who wants the fairy pets all for himself. Jack Frost, it turns out, has never had a pet choose him, and has decided to steal someone else's pet rather than not have a pet at all. This story is as glittery and lighthearted as the fairy pony inside it, and the minimalist black and white line drawings of scenes from the story sprinkled throughout add an additional dimension to Kirsty and Jessica's magical adventures. Recommended for whimsical fans of fairy tales who would not mind being a fairy for a day as well as fans of pony tales who would love a fairy pony of their own. (
