The only reason my rating for this book is kind of low is that I think perhaps I had different expectations for this going in. It’s possible that this is intended for much younger readers. I’ve read and enjoyed all of Elizabeth Wein’s other historical books but this one read much simpler and more surface level. It was an enormously quick read, took me just over an hour or so and I enjoyed it, but it didn’t grab me nearly at all the way her other books have. The characters and the plot were all surface level and underdeveloped. I think maybe it’s intended for middle grade readers? Either way, I love this author and many of her other books and I’ll be on the lookout for more of her in the future. ( ) When Germany invades Poland, eighteen year old Kristina of the Polish Air Force has a chance to escape with her aeroplane ‐‐ and an unexpected stowaway. Her journey allows for a fascinating bird's-eye view of Europe in 1939 and of the challenges posed by such a trip. Somewhere down below, the Polish Army was retreating. Civilians were fleeing, ripe grain was burning, people were arguing over train gates and passports, children were crying, wounded soldiers were bleeding. Up here there was nothing but wind and the beautiful mountain landscape rolling away endlessly on all sides. Kristina could see the fine thread of the railroad as it wound its way across the landscape, but she couldn't see any boundaries anywhere. The world was all one enormous tapestry. Like Wein's Firebird, this novella-sized story is aimed to be both accessible and interesting to reluctant or dyslexia readers. It has moments where I, personally, would have liked more detail but I've worked with struggling readers and I think it's so awesome this sort of thing exists. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

White Eagles: Summer 1939. With Europe on the brink of war, 18-year-old Kristina Tomiak has been called up to join the White Eagles, Poland's valiant air force. When the Nazis reach the town where she is based, Kristina makes a daring escape, but she doesn't realise that she's carrying a stowaway in her plane. Will Kristina be able to navigate the most challenging flight of her life and reach safety amid the turmoil of war? Firebird: Nastia is no traitor. But all is not as it seems and when the battles begin, secrets are revealed and everything that Nastia once knew is challenged. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
