A gentle book about the relationship between two brothers who have to share a bedroom (while their older sister gets her own space). Told from the perspective of the middle child, who resents his younger brother's intrusions and struggles to understand what we parents see so clearly: that the little guy just wants to play with him.

The brightly patterned illustrations contain brown-skinned kids whose faces display clear emotions. The conflict doesn't ever veer into the mean-spirited or hateful, and there are no adults in the picture. The kids resolve their conflict together without violence, name-calling, or parental interference-- but with a healthy dose of realism nonetheless. (The second-to-last spread shows that while this is hardly happily-ever-after, siblings-- and all of us-- can find a way to share spaces and coexist even though it's not easy.) ( )
