The illustrations are adorable but it suffers from trying to be both a fictional narrative, following a bear that is tapping maple trees, and a non-fiction informational step-by-step guide to maple sugaring. Having personally taken a hands on maple sugaring workshop, it is not anywhere as complicated as the book made sugaring to be.

It would be great as informational text for a maple lesson for 5th graders, but there is a big chance the illustrations would deter them from buying in. ( )
