Biker Gangs and space wars, bug aliens, nanobots, war bots, and cats. super sci fi book. I'd be interested in reading more. ( ) Faith Hunter is a prolific author of urban fantasy novels, but in Junkyard Cats she tries her hand at a near-future science fiction novella. In the late 21st century, aliens invade the solar system, leaving behind hordes of invasive nanobots that alter DNA and create some paranormal abilities. Shining Smith is a vet running a West Virginia junkyard that recycles antigravity Teslas. Biker gangs are rampant, and warbots occasionally show up. Shining Smith herself has been infected with the alien nanotechnology. Shining is now an insect queen. Anyone who touches her will be healed at the price of becoming her thrall. All this is something she would prefer to keep on the down low. Her junkyard is patrolled by the eponymous feral junkyard cats, whose DNA has also been altered. They are now capable of conducting group actions and have limited ESP. They are also very good at corpse disposal. They eat them down to the bones and teeth. With nanobots and cats, who needs vampires? 3.5 stars. Enjoyed this listen. The narrator did a fine job. The world building was intricate and was not just an info dump but was revealed over the course of the story. There is a strong female protagonist. There were cats that could communicate in images. So far they don't talk and I hope that remains true since I don't like talking animals. There seems to be a lot more story to be told. This is listed as book one so I hope we don't have to wait too long for the next one. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

From the author of the best-selling Jane Yellowrock and Soulwood series comes a tough new heroine who is far more than she seems. After the Final War, after the appearance of the Bug aliens and their enforced peace, Shining Smith is still alive, still doing business from the old scrapyard bequeathed to her by her father. But Shining is now something more than human. And the scrapyard is no longer just a scrapyard, but a place full of secrets that she has guarded for years. This life she has built, while empty, is predictable and safe. Until the only friend left from her previous life shows up, dead, in the back of a scrapped Tesla warplane. Clutched in her cold fingers is a note to Shining - warning her of a coming attack. With dread, Shining realizes: Someone knows who she is. Someone knows what she is guarding. Will she be able to protect the scrapyard? Will she even survive? Or will Shining have to destroy everything she loves to keep her secrets out of the wrong hands?
