A fine reference and abbreviated biography of one of my favorite artists, Edward Hopper. It was interesting to see how much of his early work derived from Impressionism, but he eventually developed an original style more suited to his intentions. Much of his more interesting work explores the juxtaposition between inside and outside, especially as it relates to people. The author does a nice job of interpreting Hopper's works, even bringing in works from other artists who were influenced by Hopper. The reproductions are nicely done, mainly in color and of a generous size. My only quibble is that too often the author's interpretation of a piece is found several pages away from the reproduction of the art. I'm too lazy to keep flipping back and forth like that. And I love the double-page reproduction of his most famous work, "Nighthawks". sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Considered to be the first significant American painter in 20th century art, Edward Hopper depicted the loneliness of big-city people in canvas after canvas. In this book, Kranzfelder considers Hopper's works, illustrating how his use of colour, shape and contour helped to portray a sense of melancholy. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
