As is often the case with these "Storyteller" anthologies, the individual stories collected are very different, and will appeal differently to different readers. Four stories is also a little puny, especially when they do such wildly different interpretations of the collection topic -- with every one of these volumes, I keep wishing that they'd collect five instead of four. In this one, for instance, one story is not really about a siren or mermaid at all, but a goddess who simply has a snake-bodied form. The story was fine, but it hurts the focus of the collection, and earlier collections have made similarly odd choices that would have stood out less sorely had there been a larger total.

But all in all, the fairy tales are good, the use of the Storyteller character himself is actually a bit present in some of these (if still less than might be ideal), and the artwork is beautiful. I'll keep buying these for as long as they make them. ( )
