This book will have you riveted and page turning quickly, and when the last page is turned you will be wanting more, and it looks like you might get your wish!
Hard to imagine being on vacation, mandatory, and then being dragged rather willingly into a serial murder case. That is exactly what happens to LAPD Detective Kara Quinn, she finds a body and the rest is what you need to find out as you look for answers. We also meet FBI Special Agent Matt Costa, as he tries to save lives as the next murder of what he expects will be three happens.
You never know what will set someone off, and the perpetrator here has lost touch with reality, but will he be stopped, and when you see the length of what he is prepared for, well, be safe!
A book that will linger with you long after the last page is turned!
I received this book though Net Galley and the Publisher Mira, and was not required to give a positive review. ( )

I like my mysteries to be clear, concise, to stay on point and not run too long. This one went on for far too long, to the point where I wanted to just skip ahead. The story itself was ok, and the writing is also ok, but the book dragged on, and there was far too much superfluous information mixed in with the story. Also, the bits interpreted throughout with the story from the murderer's side just took away all momentum. I found too that the details of the investigation dragged on too much and there were too many places where the team that was trying to find this murderer didn't seem to be following the obvious leads. For example, it took over half the story for them to attach any significance to the dates, which were the mot obvious clue to follow. I could go on with my dissatisfaction. The book was ok, and I guess a solid 3 out of 5 stars because it did keep me reading until the end. And, in spite of my dislike for one of the main characters, I did like the rest of the investigative team. Too much back`story, too many words, and too many improbable situations hold this book back for me, and I don't think I will be reading any more in this series. ( )

In this new book by Allison Brennan there are a lot of bodies piling up thanks to the very controlled efforts of a brutal serial killer. We are introduced to a pair of new characters, LAPD Detective Kara Quinn and FBI Agent Mathias Costa, as they endeavor to stop the violence and catch this clever killer. Lots of action, drama, twists and blood - so be prepared! I am assuming these characters will be back again, and if so, I will be reading! ( )

In The Third to Die, the Mobile Response Team (MRT) that was going to be a game changer for the FBI was in the early stages of formation. So early, in fact, that FBI agent Mathias Costa was still receiving resumes to fill spots on his team. Despite being understaffed, Mathias had to hit the ground running when news came down the pipe about the possibility of the Triple Killer starting a killing spree again. Mathias was not a character that I was immediately enthralled with but I did like his moxie and that he could walk the fine edge between office politics and getting the job done. I liked how, even though the MRT was not fully functional, it was explained to the reader what the MRT was going to be capable of in the future. That is a future that I really want to explore because it sounds like the team could really make a difference with hunting down perps.

Kara Quinn was a strong character who was very passionate about taking down criminals. She was also edgy and slightly unpredictable. She added a lot to the investigation and had a keen mind for seeing what others overlooked. She and Mathias made a good team and there was an undeniable attraction that smoldered between them but the romantic tension in no way hijacked the story. There were other characters who were part of the mobile response team and even though they didn’t get much time in this story, I liked them very much. I am definitely looking forward to their involvement in future installments. Another element that I enjoyed was that the suspense in this story was off the hook and the spiraling of the Triple Killer from calm and premeditated to out of control was nicely done. Overall, The Third to Die was intriguing, exciting, and was more than a little thrilling!! ( )

Kara is an LAPD undercover cop. She is on a forced vacation and she is NOT happy about it. Kara decides to spend some time with her grandmother in Washington. She ends up running across a dead body. This leads to a serial killer investigation with the FBI. And of course, being a witness…she inserts herself into the investigation.

Kara is a character I can truly revel in! She is one disrespectful, smart, tough cop with some unique skills. I swear, I thought she had ESP through most of this read. She is on top of it! And nothing escapes her notice. She becomes vital to the investigation of this 3/3 serial killer. Now, don’t get me wrong…this is a team effort and and this team has a great set of skills. They know how to use them and to work together to capture their target!

There is a lot going on in this story. I really enjoyed the chase in this one. It is very complex and intricate. I love a smart read that really keeps me guessing. This story is a slow build of intensity and intrigue. You just read faster and faster to get to the answers. And to the final killing…can they stop this serial killer…you MUST read this to find out!

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review. ( )
