Even though I am an adult I listened to this story and it was a heart warming adventure told through the eyes of a puppy. The characters were likable and it put the life and feelings of a puppy into prospective. I definitely think a pre-teen would fall in love with this story. I played it in my car to listen to during trips and couldn’t wait to go somewhere so I could listen to more! This is a charming story about a mother dog and her puppies brought into an animal shelter. One particular one is the runt and very tiny. Being the only girl, her brother’s rough housing hard to handle. Maggie Rose is also the only girl and the “runt” of her family with 2 older brothers. She can relate to Lily’s situation. She was at the shelter frequently because her mom was director. She falls in love with this little puppy and names her Lily. The story is told through Lily’s eyes and Maggie Rose. I am reviewing the audio book and the voice of Lily was so spot on! It is the sweet, innocent voice of what you would think a precious little puppy would have. The author does an amazing job of describing the experience, thoughts and feelings a tiny pup might have. If dogs could talk I think this would be accurate! He also captured the emotions of a child that has fallen in love with a puppy. Maggie Rose and Lily’s adventures are humorous, fun, and sometimes sad. The descriptiveness and narration were so good, pictures of the tale play across my mind like a movie. A second story is told here, the plight of animal shelters with so many pets that need to be adopted and find a forever home. I feel it spoke about those generous volunteers across the country, who face heartbreak, give their time, compassion, and hard work to help the helpless. A wonderful book for any age! Lily (named by the daughter of the shelter owner) is the runt of her litter, and was used to being pushed around by her bigger, stronger brothers. When she meets Maggie, though, things start to change for both of them. It turns out that Lily is far more special than anyone realized. The author really brings Lily's world to life...he draws a vivid picture of what life is like in an animal shelter, from the point of view of the animals. I also enjoyed the positive messages sprinkled throughout about the importance of being true to yourself, and how every person (or animal) is valuable and has a purpose. I am a good bit older than the target demographic, and must say that I enjoyed it every bit as much as my son. He gave it 5 stars for the cute animals and fun story. I gave it 5 stars for the quality writing and beautiful messages. (And, or course, for the cute animals!) Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. This was a very sweet story about a little rescue dog who has a special way of comforting other animals who were afraid or lost. She is brought to a shelter at a very young age and instantly bonds with the shelter directors daughter, Maggie Rose. Lily calls herself Maggie Rose's dog and Maggie Rose is her girl. It is told from the perspective of the dog Lily. But it is discouraged for shelter workers to adopt rescue dogs as they tend to stop fostering other animals and fostering is desperately needed. It's sweet story and I feel it would be a great story for children to listen to in a classroom setting. It's educational and compassionate. Recommended. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

A rescue dog to the rescue! Lily is the smallest puppy in her litter and the only girl. Her brothers are bigger and stronger and like to push her around. When Lily meets a girl named Maggie Rose at the animal shelter, Lily discovers things are not so bad. Lily's size means that she can help other animals who are in trouble. It's Lily to the rescue!
