Roy Grace, creation of the award-winning author Peter James, unearths a powerful criminal network in Find Them Dead.A Brighton gangster is on trial for conspiracy to murder, following the death of a rival crime family boss. As the jury file into Lewes Crown Court, twelve anonymous people selected randomly from fifty, there is one person sitting in the public gallery observing them with keen interest, and secretly filming them. Later, a group of the accused's henchmen sit around a table with the full personal details of each of the twelve jurors in front of them. They need to influence two of them - a jury can convict if directed on a 10-2 majority verdict but no less. But which two? When Roy Grace is called in to investigate a murder that has links to the accused and the trial, and the suspicion that an attempt has been made to intimidate jurors, he finds the reach and power of the accused's tentacles go higher than he had ever imagined.… (más)

4 stars. Only because Meg and Laura are so good they deserve a novel of their own. ( )

Grace takes a bit of a back seat in this story of a major drug smuggling trial and the blackmailing of a jury member to help deliver a not guilty verdict. Effective tension racked up as Meg, the elected jury Foreman, is daily reminded she must deliver or else. ( )

I've read them all so far and been very impressed but struggled to give this one a four star rating, probably out of loyalty... unfortunately this is not his best...
A bit too slow, particularly the courtroom scenes and somewhat predictable.
But as they say, you can't win them all, so on to the next.. ( )

The 16th novel in the series was supposed to be different. And it was - but not in the expected way. We see Roy in London but the bulk of the novel happens after he comes back from his assignment. And while there is technically a crime through the whole book, it does not get really solved - instead we get a legal thriller and get to see how the courts work in England - through the eyes of a juror - who has a big problem. The investigating team is there as supporting actors - showing the less glamorous part of being a policeman - the part after the hand over the accused. We had seen shades of that in earlier books but here it is on full display. Of course there are murders and the team has to solve a pretty gruesome one but it is connected to the trial in more than one way and its solution is tied to what is happening in the courtroom. And Bruno is really getting on my nerves - I am not sure where we are going with his character but something is very off and I expect we will get some "fun" in a later book... And the very end is hinting at some additional Cassian Pewe-related action in a later book as well - which will be very welcome - Pewe is almost cartoonish in the later books. ( )

Very disappointing book in the Roy Grace series. The majority of the action was set in a courtroom, which although well written, was not exactly exciting. There was very little about Roy Grace in the book, too much home life and not enough police work. I think the ongoing spat with his boss Cassian Pewe needs to be brought to some sort of conclusion, it is becoming a but too predictable now. ( )
