It's a popular question many ask especially during troubling times like these. Fred Rogers was a respected television personality known for for his ability to bring calm and understanding to this crazy world. He had an amazing gift to be able to connect with preschoolers and young children on their level. But what made him tick? What made his show such a success? And what made him special? In 1998, Tom Junod was given an assignment to write an article about a quiet, unassuming man. Junod shadowed the man as he went about his business and even visited the man's childhood hometown. Known for his cynicism, Junod set out to uncover the sordid truth about this man, but it was Junod who would soon be surprised because the man had nothing to hide. The man was authentic and compassionate. That man was Fred Rogers, and it turned out that Fred Rogers and Mister Rogers were one and the same, a very caring, compassionate individual. The Bottom Line: This book features Tom Junod's original piece for Esquire, "Can you Say...Hero?" It was the inspiration for the hit movie, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, and this is the first time this classic article has appeared in book form. Also, included in this book are a collection of words of wisdom, advice, and observations from Fred Rogers about topics like relationships, childhood, parenthood, learning, and discipline. Highly recommended reading for both new and experienced parents. Also, highly recommended for teachers, students of early childhood, education, and psychology, and everyone who enjoyed watching Mister Rogers' Neighborhood as a child. I had just watched the movie the week before and wanted to clarify something that happened in a scene -- so I ordered this book from the library in hopes to find a better explanation of a scene. I always like movie - tie-in titles but this one was not like that. Instead this was a book about some of the wise sayings of Mister Rogers with the addition of the original Esquire article -- OK content -- but not what I needed or was expecting. I have a confession to make. Since I am not an American or American citizen I have never truly seen his show, because his show was never broadcast on our national television. So before watching the movie trailer of the movie of this man's life starring Tom Hanks, one of the best actors of our time, I had no clue of this man. Which is really sad on my part. It‘s really sad because he was clearly very generous, humble, compassionate, and kind human being with a heart of gold and amazing gift and amazing talent with which he‘s inspired millions of young children and even millions of adults who have seen his show. He was truly inspirational, and the choice of words in his poems was nothing short of brilliant and touching. Some of his poems featured in this book made me smile, and others made me shed a few tears, first because I was reminded of my past, time that once was and thankfully is no more, and second because I was reminded of all of my goals, all of my dreams, and all of my hopes for my future. So this book definitely doesn‘t have a story you‘re probably searching for. What this book does have is Mr. Rogers‘ poems that are nothing short of brilliant, poems that can truly resonate with you on so many different levels, poems that can truly touch your heart and touch your soul, and poems that can truly inspire you not just to pursue your dreams, your goals, but also to pursue yourself and share your own greatest gift, like Mr. Rogers did during his prime, with the ones close to you, with the ones closest to you, with the ones who surround you, and perhaps even with the world. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

This is the book used as the basis for the recent movie A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, with an amazing portrayal of Mr. Rogers by Tom Hanks.
